Predictions (Baseball)

I have a pretty bold prediction:

American League: Detroit Tigers
National League: Los Angeles Dodgers

Winner: Detroit Tigers

I hate my prediction because I'm a St. Louis Cardinals fan. 🙁

My prediction is that the Rays will win the American League and the Nationals will win the National League. Then the Rays beat the Nationals, winning their first World Series. I am a Rays fan though, so I am bias. 😛

Not a bad call. Both very capable teams.

I think the Rays would have the toughest time of those two teams though. Lots of competition in the AL this year. The NL is pretty weak this year IMO.

I don't really feel like the AL East is that great this year. The Rays are under .500 right now because they have just been cold a lot. They made a couple signings over the off season that were supposed to help, and they really haven't so far. Yunel Escobar is batting like .160 last I checked. He was picked up because of his fielding abilities (the Rays needed a reliable shortstop), but the lineup is so weak at this point, the Rays need another decent batter. Hopefully Wil Myers can be the new bat when they call him up from the minors.

You're right about the East this year. I'm actually quite blown away that Boston is doing as well as they are. The Yankees have WAY too many injuries to compete this year. The Jays bought all of their talent, but they haven't performed at all. I think the division should ultimately come down between the Rays and Orioles (who would have thought that 5-10 years ago).

By competition in the AL, I was referring to postseason play from the other division champs. I think Texas and Detroit both look good this year. Texas is doing well, but Detroit is starting to pick it up.

Derek Jeter isn't going to be back until after the all-star break from what I heard. I would be shocked if the Yankees finished the season over .500. I honestly think the Red Sox are a bit of a fluke though. We'll see how they're doing late in the season.

Also, a little bit less than five years ago, the Rays were in the World Series. 😀

You say you hate your prediction because you are a St. Louis Cardinals fan but they aren't in your prediction

Right. I hate my prediction because I don't think they are going to make the postseason this year. I bet they fall just short of the wildcard.

I haven't watched any St. Louis games, what is their win/loss ratio?

Sitting 3 games over .500 right now. The freaking PIRATES are in first! AAAAGHHH!

That is weird considering Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez have both been in slumps so far this season. Starling Marte has been awesome though.

That's true. I think it has more to do with the fact that the NL Central has to be one of the weakest divisions this year. And that's with LOSING the Astros!

I see the Reds heating up over the summer and taking the division by a mile. I just hope we don't finish lower than the Cubs or Pirates...

The Pirates started out doing pretty good last year and then they collapsed. I am kind of hoping the Pirates keep things going this season though. I have Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte on my fantasy team. I need to do well. 😛

Also, I am a Pedro Alvarez fan because he is from Vanderbilt. 🙂

Yeah, I hate seeing the Pirates lose so much. They haven't had a winning season since 1992 I think (I also believe it was their last year with Barry Bonds).

Oh lord. I'm from GA. Go Dawgs!

You know, I have a bunch old Barry Bonds baseball cards from back when he was on the Pirates. It's too bad they are worthless because he's a cheater. 😛

I live in Tennessee. My team is the Commodores. 😀

I'm holding out for the Phillies -it may be a slim chance but its there.

I don't really see that happening. The Phillies are no longer that great. Age is a big issue for them now. Also, the National League East is already really powerful with the Nationals and the Braves.

I think its safe to say my Braves are winning the nl east...dodgers the west...and 3 playoff teams from the central
