Prefer Location with Walkability?

What type of location do you prefer to live in? Do you choose a place that has walkability to food/entertainment/doctors, etc... Or do you prefer to be away from people in the country?

Have your preferences changed as you get older?

I used to love living in the suburbs, but it wasn't walkable really. I mean, we could walk to town and there were things to do there, but for the most part, we had to use autos to get to places.

Now I live in the country and I love being away from people and the noise!! But everything takes a long time to drive to, so that's a huge drawback.

My hubby would prefer to be out in the country away from people and noise.

I prefer to be in town where I'm closer to stuff. Even if I can't walk, I'd like to be closer to stuff that I'm not spending an arm and a leg on gas for my car.

There's also wear and tear on the vehicles! I've noticed that, and now I just don't go places unless I absolutely have to.

Most of the time, I'm only driving to work and back home. I do the same thing. My last car was I owned was 13 years old and only had 53,000 miles on it. I know some people that get that many miles on it no time.

That's like me! I go to the grocery store, to the walking trails and to church for the most part. I mean, we do go to other places but it's not weekly.

I wish my wife and I could move to the country someday. But it is convenient to live in a suburb, we've got plenty of gas stations and stores. We don't live too far from the country so sometimes we like to drive around and take a look at the farm land and imagine having a house out there lol.

My partner loves the city while I love isolation. As a compromise we live on the periphery of a small town next to the sea. It's dead quiet with few neighbours but we have pretty much everything we need within a 30-40 minute walk.

I guess I’m a bit of a mix? I can’t stand being right in the city it’s just too busy all the time, on the flip side of that I also don’t want to be rural and isolated. So for my the ideal is to be on the outskirts of the city with a doctors/shops/dental care/entertainment just a short distance from me.

I like living close to everything, honestly. The quiet life in the country is definitely very appealing, but I like the convenience of being close to everything too. I'm close to my work, but I'm also close to the grocery store (two, actually!), the gas station, and quite a few restaurants. I still do a good bit of driving, but I'm not having to drive as far to most places to get to where I need to go because it's just right down the street. It's also nice in the event I don't have transportation for whatever reason because I can just walk to the store to get what I need or walk to work if I really need to.

The worst part though is the traffic.

Yes, I would strongly prefer to live in a walkable city. I hate automobiles; they are expensive, dirty, and dangerous. However, those who live outside the largest cities are often relegated to using them, whether they like it or not.

I have lived wwwwaaaaaayyyyyyyy out in the country before and I didn't really like that, too inconvenient. Hated being in my car half the day just to do literally anything, no matter how small of a task it was.

I have also lived in a heavily populated area where there is heavy foot and car traffic right outside my front door, I didn't really like that either. Too chaotic all the time.

I love where I am now the best. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood but can get to the main strip easily, less than a mile away. I can walk to all sorts of shops and places to eat ....and be where all the people are, then quickly retreat back to my little quiet street away from everyone. It's nice.

Yeah, I don't think I'd like living out in the country at all. I don't enjoy driving, so living anywhere car-dependent would not be nice at all for me!

I currently live in a small-ish city of 100,000 or so people, which I think is a good compromise. It's still somewhat walkable and has relatively easy access to everything I need - but it avoids the high prices, crime, and other problems associated with larger cities.

When it comes to walking and taking a walk, I much prefer to walk in the countryside where I can take in nature. I find it great to help relieve any stress or even great when you are going through a hard time.

If there is a small place for food and drink, that is also great, but usually, I take my own, so that is not always a problem.

I'm not a people person, so I prefer being far away from the action. I'll take having a little drive to the city. You can buy anything and everything off Amazon now anyway.
