I tried to make a Ubuntu Linux disk and I thought I was successful but when I tried to use it to boot, it gave me an error saying it couldn't boot and I didn't want to waste disks and since I saw that I could request a free CD from them, that's what I decided to do.
What I'd like to know what should I be doing within Windows 7 - Home Premium to prepare for the move over to Ubuntu Linux 10.04?
Feel free to ask me questions if needed.
I feel since I don't use Windows the way I use to I feel I can move over to Linux.
You have two option, first to partition your harddrive and use windows on the same harddrive this is known as dual boot please refer to the tutorial: here
The second option is to install linux only for this please refer to the guide here
I've already made the decision to move from windows 7 to ubuntu linux. I'm just going to have linux after the move. I want to know what preliminary steps I should take prior to the move so I'll be ready and prepared when I have linux on my PC.
Ok. Well I just got linux installed. I had to re-compile and put it on a new cd and then the install worked. So I'm on Ubuntu now but I don't like the brown. How can I change the color/theme?

Please help me. I'm on my Ubuntu CD - Try Mode.
Since starting Ubuntu, I've activated the ATI Graphics Drivers that it asked me too, I've installed Crossover Games, and installed Sims 3 on top of that because I wanted to see if I could play the game in Linux since I saw on that application it gave a bronze label (whatever that means), and I installed Google Chrome, making it the default browser).
That's the main extent of what I did. Now when I try to start my computer I have what might be a bigger screen but it just shows the Ubuntu name and the logo on the side and 4 dots underneath, but it doen't progress from there.
How do I fix my computer so I can get back into using my PC and out of my CD's try mode.
I do have access to my Ubuntu drive so at least that helps.
Thanks,
Andy.<br /><br />-- Sat Aug 21, 2010 5:12 pm --<br /><br />Ok. I've reinstalled Ubuntu to solve the Above problem, but now I have a new problem. This one I need to have solved soon so I can print.
I set up my printer but it's connected through my brother's Vista computer so I set up the printer with the best knowledge that I have but every time it tries to print a test page (probably any other page too but didn't go that far), it asks for authentication. We don't use password protection for printing so I don't understand why it's doing that? (can you please help).
Also, for the printer, it says that it might have something that I could enable called duplexer. What's that and does an HP Deskjet All-In-One F4235 Printer have that?
Thanks for helping me through my transition to Ubuntu Linux from Windows. I know it's a big move and I appreciate the help as I make the move.
