Seeing as how I am new here, I decided to try to find an area to start posting.

I've ran several popular websites/forums and each of those generated massive amounts of interest and I'm going to tell you how I did it. Press Releases. Both the free and premium versions. If you are able to write attention grabbing headers and content, then a press release will work wonders for any sites you have content attached to or have huge aspirations for. Even a website or forum with zero content could go from 0 to 90 in less than a week with the proper advertising and this is where Press Releases work their magic.

I'll stop blabbering on and will list a few sites that I have used.

My personal favorite is prweb.com (premium) and then there are PR,MediaSyndicate and OpenPress (Free Press Releases)

I have always went with the $140 package.

However, If I had the money to spend I would love to send one out using their Premium Distribution channels ... coming in at $360.

It includes all of the other packaging offers plus the following:

# Distribution through the Associated Press to top US newspapers
# Send news directly to top newspapers like USA Today
# Get more media attention - embed feature video in your release
# Enjoy free editorial consultation
# See where your news is being read through advanced analytics
# Download reports in PDF format

thanks for the info, Abnormalist. How much of a traffic increase have you seen from a single press release?

It really depends on what the subject matter of the PR is about. Say, when I announced the original ghost stories database (now moved to its own domain and off IP.Content), looking at my PRWeb stats it shows I had 150,000 unique impressions and of those 10,000 actually came to the site and out of those roughly 100 left a ghost story of their own.

But seeing as how I had almost zero ghost stories at that time... in less than a week it grew to 100 stories submitted. Now I have to bring all of those stories over to the new database one at a time.

If you have something that is more appealing to a wider audience such as a gaming forum/site or some news that you want to share or even a contest your forum is holding.... that would go far.

For one of my sites I may begin giving away iPod Touches and iPads to a few top posters of the month or per quarter. If I decide to do that, I will again advertise that through a press release.

Wow! That is an excellent amount of traffic. How well do the free options work in comparison to the premium service you showed us?
