Pretty amazed to find my forum: http://spambb.com has 104434 hits. I guess it's all the twitter advertising, I always get around 20 hits per tweet. Does anyone else get a load of hits from what seems to be from nowhere?

Yes Yesterday I had a little over 100 hits and today I have a little over 3,000. Didn't do in special advertisements so idk.

Just watch out for any spam sites linking to your sites. You have the potential to lose bandwidth quite fast, so make sure you're checking your logs for any out of the ordinary boosts of traffic.

Thanks David +Rep, I have had a bot logged as spam bot coming on then spam bots register, I always seem to find a lot of spam bots register but don't post so my forum clean up process should delete them soon. I'll have a more thorough look through my logs now to look for bursts.

Twitter sends fake hits.

It's done that for me, I know. I've gotten a lot of traffic from twitter, but not one of them signed up. Basically it seems like all that site is good for is getting backlinks, and making it look like you're getting decent amounts of traffic. So some of those stats can be pretty unreal.

Fake hits would imply it was a trick of some sort or one bot that managed to send mass hits. Bots is just were it sends a load of bots.

Anyway can there be a same difference because if it's the same it isn't different 😛

Bots arent people. They are "fake" as in they aren't potential members. They are just something to inflate your guest viewing numbers.

Bot's aren't all bad though. How else will Google know you've updated your content if there is no pinging of your site? You need that surge of bots to notify Googlebot that you've got something new and it's worth seeing and hopefully indexing.

Hmm I was wondering about that myself. Thanks for the clarification guys. 🙂 That TrafficSpammer site really seems to work as well 🙂

I'll post some links on twitter and see if any google bot shows up...
-Edit- Nope 😛

There is no guarantee that Googlebot will come. You could get Yahoo!Bot or Alexa Bot. There is even no guarantee that Google will index your site ever again.

Anyway, Googlebot has bee preoccupied for a while now. It's frustratingly camping on my forum 😛

Actually it's still on mine too, and I think it's been this way off and on for a couple of days. Are they like, desperate, to get people's sites indexed or something lol?

I did some tests and found they like to look at sites that have had recent bursts of visitors.
