They were doing the same with Predator 2. The "lowly cop" defeating Predator. The whole point of Predator franchise is to find a human to battle the best warrior. It was alright, don't know if I'd consider it amazing in my own personal experience. I didn't like the fact they were pushing 'female warrior is super amazing' when they were trying to go for the historical accuracy bit.
Overall, I'd give it a 5/10.
I'm aware of the lore and mythos behind Predator. I'm saying that I find it shocking how a tiny woman can fight a Predator on a physical level. It's akin to having a woman on one of the medieval battlefields swinging a sword or hammer against heavily armored opponents. The whole point of Predator franchise is to find a human to battle the best warrior.
Like a training battlefield.
It's just... you made it sound like this is the first time a female played the lead role by the end. Aliens vs Predator had it first. In there, Predator COMMUNICATES with the lady, and tells her: "You've earned my respect."I'm aware of the lore and mythos behind Predator. It had its moments; but, I'm seriously growing fatigued with all of these 'greater than man' females. There have been plenty of movies with great female leads in action movies without making it feel forced or shoved down your throat.

I get that, I do. I'm aware of the typical trope of the Predator franchise. I think most of my gripe was just in that I'm tired of the whole 'females can do everything better than men, just watch' message being pushed by Hollywood. It's just... you made it sound like this is the first time a female played the lead role by the end. They wanted to do it again, but strip all the convolution, and made it simple with Prey.
I understand the fatigue, its happening all over films. "Oh, I want to make this female lead just for the sake of inclusivity." I understand that, but Prey is par for the course for the franchise.
It's about battle of humans vs big bad Predator.
Yes, I get the Art of War way of winning. Be where your enemy does not expect you to be, do what your enemy does not expect you to, etc. I enjoyed the film, it just wouldn't get a 9/10 for me. There were just elements missing from it that made it less enjoyable than say Top Gun: Maverick. She didn't beat it on a physical level, there was no way that she could have. Her tribesman tried fighting it one on one and died very quickly. She learned from their deaths. Instead she outsmarted it by using her surroundings to her advantage (guerrilla warfare). It wasn't any different in the first Predator film when Dutch tricked the Predator by leading it into his trap at the end. He only ended up severely wounding it. It detonated itself in attempt to kill both of them, he didn't actually kill it himself. Same with Sarah Connor and how she outsmarted the T-800 by tricking it into going into a hydraulic press. What do these characters have in common? They both tricked the enemy, who was a 100 times stronger than them, into killing itself.

Terminator Dark Fate was ok. Its not as woke as most films are. I find the story ok. Its not attacking men as an ideology. Captain Marvel was that film. Especially the cut [bonus] scenes. I don't see Terminator or Terminator 2 as feminist films. I don't care if one of the characters is a lady. The lead of T1 is Sarah Connor and T2 is John Connor, but Sarah is supporting character. Nothing wrong, it was organic. KEYWORD is... ORGANIC.I do get where you're coming from. But not with this film.
Terminator Dark Fate was a big example. But the complaints on that movie alone are hypocritical when fans make claims about the original 2 films. The first 2 films were also feminist films. James Cameron whom might I add is big feminist. His other films are such as Titanic and Aliens are feminist films as well.
I honestly don't know if Taabe did anything. When he announced himself as the killer of the lion, someone else was walking away. It feels like he's taking credit, and the other person is disgusted by him taking credit or that same person feels disgusted by Naru...?? Its an aside that I noticed at first. Hm.Going back to the topic at hand: Naru had a lot of flaws. It was obvious she wasn't better than any man. That was made obvious in the movie that she was lacking as a hunter. she wasn't better than her brother, Taabe played by Dakota Beavers who did an amazing job at role. He really sold it. He was a very skilled & talented hunter. He always cleaning up after her. He had no confidence in her skills at all, nor did their fellow tribesmen. He saved her from a mountain lion attack and was concerned and had no choice but to call her out on it. There's several occasions when the predator could have killed her. She got way way lucky at the end. What if it hadn't walked into her trap?
Actually, I think they know that Predator is a species of its own. Its not a Wendigo. Prometheus is another prequel, but its for "Aliens." So... its contradictory. To me, Prometheus is a Wendigo. Predator is a mutated species.I did find it awesome how they never once thought the Predator was an alien in the movie. Naru assumed it was a Wendigo the entire time.
