One of the great benefits that ProBoards has introduced in the last few years is more options as far as sub-domains go. We went from only having the ProBoards.com option, to having Boards.net and FreeForums.net as well.

Which sub-domain are you utilizing for your forum? Why did you pick it?

Which do you prefer, and why?

I don't use proboards but always thought that was a fantastic feature. If possible, i'd always like to have .boards.net 🙂

I prefer the .proboards domain. The others don't feel the same to me, maybe cause I've been there for a while.

I agree with you. Boards.net is short and sweet.

Pretty much every good name would always be taken when it came to trying to use ProBoards.com. That's how it was back when I used it anyways. I don't know if they have made any efforts to purge inactive forums since then.

I'm not sure how often they purge the used names, if at all. I know for sure that they don't delete inactive forums, though.

But yes, the good names are often taken on that subdomain. That's a good case for a custom TLD lol.

I know they had a big purge when I was with ProBoards many years ago, but they only went through and deleted any forum that hadn't had any human traffic in like a year.

boards.net is easier to type and remember but proboards.com seems most appropriate.

I use boards.net or my own custom domain. Like stated, all the good proboards.com names are taken and I’ve been around proboards a long time.

When I created my forum over a year ago, I opted for the proboards.com option. I picked it as I wasn't sure if the other options would be different than what I was used to.
