I am thinking of using proboards - is it good or bad? Vote now!

Proboards Review 2018
Pros: Free; Remotely Hosted; Clean, Easy to Understand Layout; Easily Customizable; Mobile Apps
Cons: Paid Option; Ads

I heard that you cannot migrate proboards forums to other forum software, is that true?
I use Proboards & that is a stickler for many of us. Unless they change the rules, we are stuck or have to start over from scratch.
Unless somebody has found out differently. The only thing I had read is that their sister site forums.net can migrate over. But I don't know enough about it. Proboards Support is so big & they don't delete any posts, it's so hard to use their Search engine to find what you are looking for.

Proboards allows you to download your data only via 'account settings'. There is no facility which allows the migration of your member's data to another platform. For that reason alone I have to vote 'bad'.

Do they offer a premium plan where you can use your own domain, instead of their subdomain?

Yes, that's true. They allow us to download our own only.

This is what I found:
"Do you want to access your ProBoards forum with your own custom domain name? Instead of using holisticallysecular.proboards.com for your forum URL, you could use your-domain.com! We can link your existing domain name to your ProBoards forum for $19.99/year. Please note that domain name registrars charge an annual fee to own a domain name as well. These fees and companies are separate from the service we offer."

However, I don't know what the benefits would be in having my own domain if I would still be tied into Proboards rules & still can't migrate over.
Anybody know?

I don't like ProBoards, they don't always look great and the way the login and profile sections are displayed and function make no sense whatsoever. I'd never personally use ProBoards.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my question. Personally, I found the charges too high. Spending $20 per year for hosting your forum and still not having the ability to control your website files is not something a lot of people will find attractive.
