Well, ProBoards Version 5 is not out yet, but it should be out soon. I will go ahead and predict that it will be out some time late this year. What do you expect out of the upcoming version 5? ProBoards should have many more improvements, but I have always heard a couple things that I won't be too thrilled about, which I think will be ways for ProBoards to try to make more money. I'm sure some V5 features have been accidentally leaked. ProBoards members have been told some of the features. Example of a V5 feature: http://support.proboards.com/index.cgi? ... 482&page=1
That V5 feature seems to be mainly aimed at RPG forums, which is the most popular forum genre hosted by ProBoards now. Alpha Testers have already been decided. The new ProBoards version is supposed to be making everything easier, and coding will almost be completely unnecessary. They are claiming that you will only need to know a little HTML to customize your forum to your liking. They are also saying that most skins, codes, etc. will no longer work. V5 discussion has been in the air around ProBoards since late 2006. There should be a place in the admin panel to make creating nice skins a breeze. Supposedly, you will be able to assign users to multiple groups and you will be able to multiple quote. Also, links should be a lot more search engine friendly. Using key-words, etc. ProBoards V5 is expected to have at least 60,000 lines of coding. ProBoards forum owners will have an option to convert their forum to ProBoards V5, but they could choose to stay with version 4.5, until ProBoards V5 is completely released. Everything is expected to load faster, etc. Finally.... It's been a long wait. Thoughts?

Good to see that ProBoards will be less crappier than it already is. :great:

I'm looking forward to this, but probably will create a test forum, and test it out before I switch my forum over.

Have you even used ProBoards before?
If so, what version?

You will have to switch it over eventually anyways.
The bad thing is that the themes, etc won't no longer work.
For example, Cmt Sports Forum's custom theme and Baseball Clubhouse's custom theme will no longer work. It should be easy for users to replicate such themes just by using basic options in the admin panel.

Whatever version it's on now.

The ProBoards Forum Directory is also expected to finally be established once V5 is released. Forums have been being submitted since like August 2010. Yet, they don't even have a live directory set up.

lol I don't know why people stick to free hosts when hosting yourself is a little more flexible.

lol I don't know why people have to troll threads with discussion that has nothing to do with the topic. 😉

This is for V5 discussion, I would have figured the community would be a bit more mature and actually post your thoughts on the upcoming V5. This is not about free hosts vs. paid hosts, etc. This is about ProBoards Version 5. Let's stick to the topic please.

Mature is difficult for Taz 🙂

Anyhow, when it's up I will try and make a forum. Will just be a test forum though.

Oh wow, really. That's sad.

anyways, does V5 have any new updates like theme changes or style differences in coding?

How should I know?

V5 hasn't been released yet. 😉
Only the alpha testers and ProBoards employees know, and they would get it a lot of trouble if they leaked V5 information without permission.

Do they have like previews? You guys should make a petition so that it can be download-able.

Not yet.

Who are you referring to when you say "You guys."
And ProBoards users aren't signing a petition. I think we are happy how it is.

I used to be with them and I didn't like it.

And some people don't like XenForo, phpBB, MyBB, IPB, etc. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean others won't like it.

good to see an update, and nice that it's geared towards RP boards considering a lot of other solutions are very lacking in some areas. Mybb, SMF, and PHPBB don't really have a stable rpg mod, most are scrapped long before completion.

I actually really like that. I used ProBoards briefly and didn't like their ACP, but that's a really neat feature.

My friend just had her Proboards RPG forum up and deleted without recourse for having an inappropriate plot. I'm not too hot on them right now.

A glance up and down their support forum will reveal she is not their only recent victim by a long shot.
