Hello to our wonderful administrators, moderators, and forum members.

It is with a heavy heart that today I must announce the suspension of work on ProBoards Version 6. With the changing landscape of our current economy, we’ve found it necessary to reprioritize projects and have had to place v6 on indefinite hiatus.

Let me say it has been a pleasure working with many of you on bringing v6 into existence. Your feedback, thoughts, ideas, support, and suggestions have been invaluable.

I want to reassure everyone that nothing is changing in regards to v5 and ProBoards will continue to provide free self-serve communities to anyone who wants to start their own forum. V6 beta forums will remain online and functional. ProBoards is still supported by a small but dedicated team. Support will continue to be offered 5 days a week from 9am to 5pm Pacific.

ProBoards continues to remain a home for the wonderful, diverse, and enthusiastic communities we host. Without your unbridled dedication ProBoards would not be the remarkable place it is today. Your communities have given us direction, purpose, and a reason to keep working hard. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being a part of the ProBoards family.

Little sad that they decided to suspend production for the time being. I was expecting an update to V6 to happen by the end of the year, if they were on track initially when they started allowing people to try beta.

I would have thought they may be doing OK with the amount of people using Proboards and the amount of people probably paying for premium on their boards or whatever. But I guess everyone got caught out during covid.

Well, It happens right, maybe they will open it up again later in the future

Thank you for posting this. I go to Support once a week but mainly to bump my Promotion. Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to V6.

Is there something V6 was going to do that was going to cause issues with your forum?

I'm not into tech & it seemed it was gearing towards more tech-related issues. I picked Proboards for the ease of use but with talk of V6, most was going over my head. Plus, everybody would have to start over. All themes, plug-ins would have to be redone to fit with V6.

I guess they don't think of the people who use the software and what their issues may be. They just know they have to do an upgrade for X amount of people and the rest are left behind. It's the same with all these new gadgets and tech like phones people are being left behind 🙁

You have to look at this from a business point of view as well, forums are not doing that hot these days so I'm sure that was part of the decision.
Even some of the big boards are struggling to keep members active

But then the database would not got lost anyway 😉 I expected that people are already started working on themes for it right.. Well, Not anymore

I think they dabbled in it with the Beta version to test new things out.

The beginning of the end for ProBoards. Hate to see it. 🙁

What about those of us with forums on Proboards? We can't migrate over to another platform per their TOS. I wonder if they'd finally allow that so we don't lose all that we worked hard on.

Only way I see as a way to transfer over, is if the person was already using their paid platform version, that gives a few additional options to the software, that isn't normal in the regular free version. If I remember right, those paying for the paid version, has the option to use the Single Sign On option, to allow for third party connections to the forum, which could be used for social network logins, or account sharing between two or more websites that the admin wants to link the userbase to the forum.

And if I remember right, after 6 months of paying for the mentioned version, the forum owner can download the entire database, and not just the individual account, for database migration off of the software.

EDIT: Then again, their paid website version does mention the person can download the entire site as a backup whenever they want to, so it might just be just related to the package that is purchased for it.

I'm already aware of it and the Proboards community's not even ready for a version 6 yet in the forseeable future.

Interesting! That's too bad for those of us with the Free version. Can you go from Free to that Paid version without having to start over?
