Re: New Service! - Profile Ads

Very nice. Never would have thought of the idea. But what makes it different from placing your ads in your signature?

The significant difference is that if there's an advert below your poster details it'll be noticed more than it would if you say had the same thing in your signature. Most people skim through a topic only looking at post content, then they'll skip straight down to the next posts - more often than not taking no notice of the signature. With profile ads, your advert is placed somewhere it's not expected to be seen. It will get attention when people go to donate cash, click the "PM" button, give reputation or even just look at your avatar or post count.

Additionally, people offer to put other people's signatures in their own signature. At least with profile ads people will know it's your site.

Re: New Service! - Profile Ads

Awesome new addition. You guys really thought hard about this service! Congrats.

Also, my profile ad is mispelled. It should be 'ForuMansion.'

Fixed that. Can you provide a working link to your affiliate image please ~smile~

Oh, sorry about that. I will find my affiliation image and upload it to another host. Thanks.

Sounds all right, but nothing to go crazy about. I might request it at some point.

A smaller button may be noticed less in a signature, but banners wont be skimmed. Yes people skim through posts for content, but at least the signature is in their path down. Just going down this page to find out where sbfc directed me I stopped to look at the signatures of Van1lla, Murder he Wrote, CarMadMike, Dragon Master, and Michael Scott. I did not notice this service was even active when I donated to Irviding in Exchange Central. Maybe suggest that the buyer make something that really stands out. Something animated like those seizure robots would garner attention.

People may get attention when someone tries to donate them money, PM them, or give them reputation. But to make that really effective they would have to be doing something that would get people doing that for them. I think the idea of this is right, but the implementation is off. This would be more valuable if it went somewhere such as above the users name and avatar. As most people will look at name/color/avatar to identify the poster. With it above the information it is in a place that will be commonly viewed and be very valuable to the user. A reader will not assume that the user's avatar is down lower and will be looking in the common location for who the poster was. There they will see the link and button and it will be viewed. A link that is not sitting directly next to the signature will provide a greater range of advertising.

Anyways sorry if I sound negative. And I hope the idea and reasons I came up with can be implemented to really make this service more effective and more valuable to the members here.

Re: New Service! - Profile Ads

Great new service. Really give members an extra ad placement, and I really like how they look.

Yes people skim through posts for content, but at least the signature is in their path down.
See, that's where mine and your difference comes in. Not everyone views a forum exactly the same. I'm skimming past signatures, but when i read post, I'm a rep checking addict, where I like to see members' reputation points, and even read their mini-profiles more then their signatures.

Those who are fluent with forums, usually bypass signatures, because the already know what's in each member's sig, a giant banner ad for a forum.

But, The profile Ads, it's new, different ... and not "everyone" will be wearing one at the same time.

Alright I see. Looks very nicely placed as well.
