Good question. XnewsX will focus on news with a global point of view.
TrendingArticles focuses news articles are being talked about with a viewership point of view.
They are quite similar than being different.
Currently building XnewsX as a new and upcoming news brand.

Why not just merge the two and go from there? What sense does it make to manage content on what seems identical websites? Doesn't make sense to me. Work smarter, not harder.

Don't want to merge. True, It does look identical, but Iam working smartly to make it look different. Thanks for wishing me luck.
