Prom is a relatively new thing to the UK, There was no such thing when I was at school, we would have the annual school disco but nothing fancy. Now the kids who are going up to high school aged 11 get a prom and so do the kids who are leaving school aged 16.
Same as year books, I think it's a nice thing to do, I've heard one or two mothers saying how expensive it is as the girls want their hair and nails done along with the fancy dress, shoes and limo.
I'd say, if you can go then go for it, you only live once and you are my age before you know it! 😉
