In your experience, how does promoting a blog differ from promoting a forum? I've ran both in the past, and found them equally challenging in different ways. Which do you think is more difficult, and why?
Honestly I think it's hard to promote any kind of website on the internet nowadays. Every time I turn around there are new blogs and forums popping up somewhere in the ground. 😛
The difficulties with blogs is that you need content, so you cannot promote your blog if you don't have articles that are well written and can match the niche of the site your promoting it on. I would not visit a blog dedicated to heavy metal, so finding your "people" and "people" willing to read is something that I think blogs have a hard time finding.
Forums on the other hand, it's easier to get content to advertise because you have multiple people posting and interacting. A blog is more of a website, whereas a forum is more of a community and from my view, a forum is more worth joining then reading a blog post and commenting.
All in all I think its hard to promote anything, but I find a blog a tad harder to really advertise, considering many people on the internet these days is lazy and doesn't really like reading. 😛
Blogs are easy to promote as you can work on regular blog posts and promote them in social networking websites to gain visitors and subscribers. The content should be of high quality to build your blog reputation in search engines.
On the other hand forums require promotion on a mass media, maybe a good way to popularize them is to keep yourself active in other similar forums. Forums require more dedication and advertising to generate new members for registration.
Agreed with the above. Blogs are easier to market, especially if you bring a unique view to your chosen topic. Forums on-the-other-hand require much more effort to engage with your audience and provide a service for people to want to publish their own text on your website.
It requires more time on their part to register an account, login, create topics, publish post and more. On a blog, they can visit, read through and leave. That said, blogging isn't a breeze, especially if you wish to make a living from it.
