Promoting Open Source Projects

What recommendations do you all have for promoting open source projects? I've tried promoting a few, but it seems like there aren't many places to. For example, there is no "Open Source" forum, as far as I know, although the term is ungooglable.

What recommendations do you have? Have any of you succeeded at this, or seen someone succeed in promoting an open source project? Thanks!

I guess it would depend on the project. Also it would depend upon if you trying to promote the script/project or project for a team?

I'm talking about a project that's already working, not one that needs team members.

Development forums depending on what it is? If its a game, try gamedev.net and various other game development forums of the such.
