Hey mates,

I have noticed a trend of promotion forums being made recently. They all do the exact same thing FP does. User Online/Offline text for services, use same forum ideas, ect.

Well this will not be a ran thread, but me helping you change how promotions forums look and are made.

Service: NO
Do not use the whole SERVICE: Online thing. That is so old and used on so many forums it is not even funny. Don't put it at all. If there is a backlog, lock the forum so that only staff may reply to and make topics.

Packages, Reviews, OH MY!
Package. Neat name for a bunch of posts isn't it? Well it isn't when you use it over and over.
When someone is looking to make a professional forum, they buy posts from private posters. So make the "Package" type job more of a post related job. Something like "Buy Posts" as the forum name would do it for me.

Reviews. Reviews. I cannot stop saying it, look in a thesaurus. Find new words for it. INFACT, make new guidelines too! Make reviews fun, have many types of reviews, all Promotion Forums have two types of reviews just like here. Nothing draws me to request a review if I can get the same job done better here. Have new reviews like review over forum layout, reviews on community behavior, even special awesome epic reviews! Do something

Don't call them that, when I think of services I think of Animal Services... or maybe that's just me.

I can think of the top of my head how many forums have a PACKAGE TEAM and a REVIEW TEAM. No, no no no no no NO!!. If you are one of those people, hit yourself over the head with the nearest blunt object. Package Team could be "Post Service Members" "Forum Posters" or even "Poster". For review team try "Forum Judge" "Reviewer" "Forum Critic".

Admin Related

SERVICES SHOULD NOT BE THE MAIN FOCUS. They are requested once and have a wait time, so make them the last of people's troubles.

Forum Cash
Is highely overrated. Do something like hosting companies do or something. X Posts per month for Post Package No. 1. Ect something like that would be awesome. Or even go as far as member behavior.

I hope someone uses this. It is my brainstorm thread for those making promotion forums. I hate seeing them how they are now. I am not looking to start a forum, so you can use all these ideas, some of them, or even work off them. Whatever you want, it is here for you.

@Coppa: Really? Don't say that here, I am not looking for something like that contributed to this topic. This is for people who are, leave that somewhere else.
 
I hate cutesy names just to be unique. I'd rather be on an advert forum that is easy to navigate and easy to understand rather than one that is striving so hard to be unique that its impossible to figure out what is what.

I dont go to advertisement forums to find a unique and amazing forum experience, I go there to do my buisness.

I agree, and also, FP wasn't the first promotion forum. Note the definition of "promotion forum" cannot be defined, so stating a forum cannot be like FP, or stating FP has the first ever services etc. are false statements and misleading.
 
I never said it belonged to FP, it is just what everyone uses.
 
Most of this is just "rename something that is bad and it will be alright". Well, anything that is unoriginal under a different name is worse than the original product. As theezy said, those cutesy names sort of look like an attempt to dodge the age old cliché. What promotion forums need is actual new content, not rip offs under new names. Other than that, I agree that services should never be a main focus in such a genre, unless you have some REALLY good stuff (better than FP, yes) and that forum cash is a bit overrated.
 
Well it is ideas, I would rather join a promotion forum with different names and stuff than one that looks and sounds just like this place :lol:

I don't see why you shouldn't use that, just having a locked forum may be confusing. Marking out that the forum is offline from the index page is not necessary I agree, but I don't think you ''shouldn't'' use it, up to you really.

That title is way too matter of fact and has not got any zip to it. Also it's contradictory that you have advised against virtual cash later in this post, yet you are suggesting with a name like that, that you would indeed be using virtual cash? :S

I called it Asssessments, though I don't really care what the service is called. The quality of service is more important then the name in this case. Also ''special awesome epic reviews''... I'm pretty sure this is meant to be a serious guide. *facepalm*.

Yeah that's just you, plus they are services, the only alternative really is resources but it doesn't matter either way.

A team member is a team member. I don't see anything wrong with calling them that and I don't see why someone who doesn't call them something along your lines should hit themselves with a blunt object.

If it's a promotion forum, I don't see why that shouldn't be the layout. News and Introductions at the top followed by promotional services, then admin related sort of discussions, then the off topic areas. That's logical and there's nowt wrong with it. :|

Not bad ideas though Forum Cash is not highly overrated as you've said, just here at FP it's arguably become inflated and you're basing FP's example on all other promotional forums. 😛

In truth, whilst I appreciate the time you spent to write this, it's very badly done and hard to agree with, sorry.
 
I didn't post it and say it was the best idea in the world, people can work of it. I don't care either way :lol:

However, you clearly said "FP's type of layout" meaning you class this layout to be FP and not some other forum.
 
Well there aren't so many promoting forums out there, when you try to search on google promoting forums or any other keywords you get to webmaster forums powerd on VBulletin. And nothing there is going to allow you to promote. they most of the time talk about making money and SEO, tips that kind of crap.

Its hard to find promoting forums like FP, to be honest the forums that came to exist like PS thanks to FP, Nathan make it possible to use this special promoting way. I have a guy in my team who comes from a totally other part of the internet world. From VB sites, and webmaster talking. He didn't knew what a package was. Thus promoting forums powerded on phpbb, or free forums, etc are still welcome and needed.

In general those sites that are most the same don't exist with many as there are webmaster forums or other forums who are of no use to promote.
 
The term "promotion forum" is hard to define. Those forum genres you mentioned are correct as you are promoting your site, traffic wise, not free posts and reviews etc.

Also, they know how to market their site.
