How would you handle a colleague being promoted, when you were wanting that promotion?

That can be tough but there could be circumstances as to why a co-worker was chosen including higher education, putting in a request for it (sometimes we think we have to wait first to be asked instead of asking), going above and beyond what was expected, possibly showing more leadership skills and the history of employment there that includes not taking too many days off, not griping about the job, being on time, and knowing when to make certain parts of the job a priority.

I was asked to apply for a higher position back when I worked but I wasn't interested because I was only working to make money to pay my daughter's college education. I knew others had children to care for and needed the money more and since I wasn't going to be there longer anyway there was no way I wanted the position. But when my boss and I talked about it, all the things I stated in the first paragraph above are things she commended me for over the other workers who had been there longer than I had minus the higher education and requesting it.

One thing you don't do after being overlooked is to fuss about it. You can ask your boss if other promotions will be opening up soon and how can you secure that spot next on the list.

In todays date. I am happy to even have work while i see people are being cut off from work.
