I don't live too close to a Costco, but I've thought about getting a membership because there is one not far from where my husband works. What are some pros and cons for a membership?

They've only got one Costso in New Zealand and that's up the top of the North Island in Auckland and I'm in the South Island. There was talk about another one in the South Island but nothing has been done yet.

I paid for a membership thinking we were going to go when we were on holiday in Auckland but never went 🤦‍♀️

So I’m lucky I have one about a 20 minute drive away from me. I’ve got a membership and for me it’s a mixed bag

1) I love the food court - it’s a great place to pick up a real cheap but tasty lunch

2) It’s efficient - everyone knows exactly what they are doing and you don’t have 87 year old Dorris holding everyone up moving at a snails pace at the tills.

3) Their rotisserie chicken and ribs are brilliant and feed so many!

4) They quite often have good promo deals on and the good/items are generally of good quality.

The downsides though are

1) Pretty much everything is catering sized/quantities which is fine if it’s a family of 4/5 but if it’s just 1/2 of you then a lot of it goes to waste unless you can freeze it.

2) It can get crazy busy and whilst everything is ru. Efficiently it can feel chaotic at weekends.

3) Not everything is as good a deal as it seems so it pays to work it out in individuals as often the local supermarkets will stock it cheaper.

4) It’s very easy to buy more than your car can carry!

I love Costco!! 🤩 💜 I don't have a membership as it costs to much for our budget but I think if we want something in bulk I'll ask either my worker or my mother in law if they can get it for us. 🙂

The Costco food court has switched to Coke products. Blacklisted.
I like coke products but Pepsi products are better and it sucks they switched. So many places have coke products now, it's hard to find a place that has Pepsi products. At least Taco Bell has them, and so does Panera Bread. For my wife and I, having a Cosco membership might not be worth it but maybe it would if we did get everyone else in the house food too. We have a location that's about 10-15 minutes away from us so it's not too far. I've always wanted to try one of their hot dogs lol.

I've never been to one. My hometown doesn't have one.

I wanted to come back to this because I got a Costco membership when I ordered my new laptop back in November through their website, and it was cheaper to get the membership than to pay the 5% non-member fee.

My husband and I have been making monthly trips, and wow, I really never knew how much we could save by going there.

So far for the rest of the year I won't have to buy:
  • Floss (had a rebate today so that was much cheaper than buying the grocery store cheapy brand)
  • Napkins (well we might have to buy more before Christmas if we have people come visit
  • Olive Oil
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Sandwich Bags
  • Trash bags
and we're stocked up for at least 6 months on toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste for my husband (I use Crest Kids and haven't seen it there yet), mouthwash for my husband, Pepcid AC (I don't use it often so I could probably put this in the other list), and Lysol cleaner that I'll put in my Windex cleaner bottle when it's finished for a refill.

Right now, we've used the membership enough that it's saved us money and that means my grocery bills are much less each visit, and that's nice.

Plus, the food court! The prices are amazing even though the food is just okay. We had the hotdog combo the first visit and we weren't too thrilled with boiled hot dogs. The second and third visits we had the pepperoni pizza slices and those were pretty good. I cut mine in half and bring half of it home for dinner. Today I had the soft serve vanilla ice cream cup and ate it on the drive home and it lasted for over a half hour (I'm about 45 minutes away from the store). It's not something I'd crave, but I wish I didn't have a chocolate allergy...although I'll still probably try it this summer anyway and just load up on Zyrtec.

I do not even know that we have one in the UK. Then again, it would be under a different name and branched off from it. But at the end of the day, it won't be the only store that would do it 😛
