I'm one of three head members of a small startup forum. Our focus is to have the forum be creativity-centric, but some of our members have very real concerns about having the works of the members protected against theft. We wanted to accomplish this by having the guests be able to view our arts section but not have permission to view the threads themselves- however, we're using MyBB (not the greatest software) so what that does is it makes the section look like no one posts in it at all. And if you were a creative individual looking to share their work and receive responses on it, does that look like a place to do it? No. No, it does not.

Plagiarism is some thing we all fear for our creative side, those wishing to create a forum in no time can simply copy / paste as much as they like, although there is a way of disabling the right click on websites, I'm not aware of it being available for forums.

One thing of note is that Google itself hates plagiarism, and it does have algorithm's in place to detect it, and it's not just concerned with articles, it can even detect it down to sentences, because of this the earliest post with the article or sentence will always be rated higher, so there is some protection there.

It's easy to watermark pictures, text entries are little more difficult, one way to put the majority off is to have a copyright stamp on each article, I know there is a BB code in phpBB to do this, not so sure about MyBB though.
