Well Well...here's one for the PS3 non-believers...

PlayStation outsells Wii in Japan
Sony's PlayStation 3 has outsold Nintendo's Wii console in Japan for the first time in 16 months.

Last month, Sony shifted 146,948 units of the PS3 compared to 99,335 Wiis, reported publishing firm Enterbrain.

While some suggest it could signal the end of Nintendo's dominance, others think it is unlikely that the PS3 will threaten the Wii's popularity globally.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's revamped DSi console sold 92,000 units in the UK during its first weekend of sales.

It makes it the fourth biggest ever console launch.

Astonishing, and there was half of us thinking the PS3 was dead and buried. I have no idea how the statistics shape up elsewhere although seeing it is Japan this is pretty significant.

What do you make of this?
 
this has got to be because of the shortage in wii systens available.

but congratz to the PS3 ... good to the console picking up some momentum
 
I have PS3,360, and Wii. My favorite is the 360 probably because most of my friends have it.
 
Maybe most people already have a wii?

I mean everyone I know has one... so I wouldn't be surprised if PS3 sold more. Not because it's better but because people just don't have one
 
I remember when the Xbox 360 came out most people I know didn't get one but one or two years down the line they did but only now are they getting a PS3.
 
I was actually expecting this, since the PS3 is really starting to get some great exclusive titles.
 
i am glad ps 3 is finally going well i have a ps3,wii,and a 360 these days i mostly play fable 2 online. i am waiting for ff 13 which won't get out until 2010 if i am lucky.
 
Can't stand PS3, they have all their users as one console bashers 'PS3 is the best, PS3 is the best!', all consoles have their good features. PC gaming will always be a larger force though -😉-

My thoughts exactly. After so much of dominating sales, the wii had to slow down eventually. Everyone's just about got one. And with the other systems major price cuts, it's likely another would setp up in the reigns

Mostly, like others have said, many people already own a Wii, so obviously sales in the PS3 are going to be higher as people do not own as many.
 
This isnt possible, Japan is like the Wii place to be lol even though i do have a ps3 and love it
