Re: Psychology of Writing ~ A Creative Community

This looks like quite a site, Lunar. ^_^

Being an author and avid roleplayer myself, though, I do have a slight question regarding your rules (just to have said question cleared up). When regarding the rule about sexual content, does it mean even light/medium romance - but not explicit - is disallowed in regular posts?

Re: Psychology of Writing ~ A Creative Community

Hello Selene. ^^ I’m glad you like the site. I’m actually looking to giving it a bit of a revamp to make it more writer oriented, which may actually come to better suit you and your pursuit to become an author.

As for the rule, you can have light/medium romance in role-plays, stories, etc; however, nothing that could be considered X-rated, unless you are over the age of 18. This rule has been tweaked a couple of times and may be tweaked again (for clarity purposes). So basically, if characters are going to participate in intercourse, instead of writing a detailed description, fade to black or tone it way down.

This rule is in place to protect the younger members of the forum from participating in something that their parents may not want them to participate in. Like I said, we’ve been tweaking and working with the rule, but light/medium romance is allowed in the general areas of the site.

Re: Psychology of Writing ~ A Creative Community

Thanks Scorp! ^^

I've been in touch with our theme designer and there's just a few more finishing touches that need to be done to the new theme. So, hopefully we'll be seeing a new theme this weekend or sometime next week. *fingers crossed* With the new theme we will also be changing around the forum's layout (adding, changing, and omitting things).

We are still looking for input on whether or not to add site wide posting requirements for role-plays or if we should leave it as if. All input is greatly appreciated, so check out the thread here. Also, we are currently trying out a new chatbar, which is on the footer of the site (it can be minimized for those who don't necessarily enjoy footer toolbars following them around). Other than that, we've been having some rather interesting conversations and having a ton of fun just being goofy.

I think that about covers everything. We hope to see you soon on http://www.psychologyofwriting.org!

I assume that is Wibiya you are using, and that its chat feature is meant to replace the shoutbox. In any case, how do you like it so far?

I am looking forward to seeing the new layout.

Re: Psychology of Writing ~ A Creative Community

It's actually not Wibiya, it's more similar to Facebook's one-on-one chat system, but it also has a small chat room that you can pop out. It will be replacing the shoutbox if people like it well enough. So far, I'm kind of on the fence about it. The members seem to really enjoy it, but I'm not sure how I feel about the footer toolbar. It is nice that it can be shrunk down though, so it's not as annoying as some other toolbars I have seen. We'll see though, it's been a hit with members, so it may stick around for the time being.

I'm hoping the theme will be done very soon and hope everyone likes it when it's released.

I am surprised that the toolbar you are using is not Wibiya, as it looks quite similar, at least upon first glance. Yes, the ability to minimize is a welcome feature, much like the ability to minimize the shoutbox or forum categories on the index page.

I suppose being able to remove the toolbar on a per member basis would be most welcome to a few members. That in mind, I am reminded that the administrator of AdminAddict used user group permissions to allow members to join a user group specifically to remove the Wibiya toolbar used at his forum. However, he is using vBulletin3, and I do not know if the method would work out on MyBB. In any case, the ability to minimize makes this a trivial concern.

If the toolbar did not have the chat feature, would you still be inclined to keep it? If not, have you thought about starting a poll about whether to use the toolbar or the shoutbox?

Re: Psychology of Writing ~ A Creative Community

I had thought about using Wibiya at one point, but I wasn’t into how it looked. A friend of mine showed me the toolbar we’re currently using and it seems to be working out very well. I love being able to minimize it, so it’s not in my face whenever I’m on, but it’s nice to have. And there are a few features that could come in handy down the line.

I actually hadn’t thought about removing it for certain members as of yet since we’ve only had it up for a couple of days thus far. If the toolbar ends up being a hit to most active members and there are a few that don’t wish to use/see it, there actually is a way that I can set up a group that would not have access to it. I’ll have to add that into an announcement somewhere if we decide to stick with the toolbar. Thanks for the suggestion, I really had not thought of that!

If it didn’t have the chat features, I wouldn’t use it, honestly. I’m not crazy about toolbars in the footer, they generally annoy me actually, but I wanted to try something new out on the site. I have thought of starting a poll to see if people would prefer the toolbar to the shoutbox, but I will probably do that after the toolbar has been up a few more days so members can really test it out and see what they do and don’t like about it. I’m not sure how many have ever used a chat like this one, so it’s better to give them some time to really try it out before asking which they prefer considering they’ve probably grown accustomed to a shoutbox or chat room. The poll will probably go up sometime next week, I’m thinking.

Re: Psychology of Writing ~ A Creative Community

We have officially announced our Valentine Contest. All entries must be submitted by Feb 11th and I cannot wait to see what kind of entries we get. Good luck to everyone who enters!

In regards to adding a word count for role-plays, from the poll results, it looks as if we will NOT be adding a word count. However, there is still time to vote as the poll will not be closed until later this evening. We are also still looking for input on the new footer chat, but thus far it seems as most members enjoy it.

I think that pretty much covers the updates for the time being. We hope to see you soon at http://www.psychologyofwriting.org!

Psychology of Writing Updates:

A lot has been going on over at Psychology of Writing. We are currently in the process of switching to a new host due to complications with the previous one. We hope to see the site back up and running within the next couple of days. But before the site went down for the move, there were a few announcements and additions made to the site and once the move is complete, there will be more to come. February is going to provide Psychology of Writing with many new changes.

Of course one huge announcement is that we are moving to a new host. This decision was made, like previously stated, due to complications we were having with our old host. Our new host has thus far been very helpful with the move. If it weren’t for a small clerical error (made by myself) we would be up and running, but that should all be cleared up very soon and the ball should be rolling very shortly. Another announcement made was that of our Valentine Creative Contest. This contest is not just a writing contest and not just an art contest, it’s both. Submit writings or art work pertaining to Valentine’s Day or Single’s Awareness Day. The prizes include a matching avatar and signature set made by one of our wonderful Global Critic (Global Moderator). For more details, make sure to check here.

Our next announcement was our search for an additional Life Critic. A Life Critic is like a Community Moderator who moderates over “The Neighborhood” portion of our site, which consists of general discussion topics, debates, and games. To apply for this position, there are some speculations, but all which can be easily met. If you’re interested or would like to know more about the position and what’s required of you, make sure to see this thread.

We have also put in a new chat, which can be found at the foot of the site. The current members seem to rather enjoy it and as long as it doesn’t cause any problems, it will more than likely be staying with us. This chat not only provides chat rooms for members, but also allows members to converse one on one, translate the page to different languages, and link to both Facebook and Twitter pages. There may be some more add-ons to come in the future.

There are, like I mentioned earlier, some things that still not have been done yet due to the move, but that just means that there will be something more to look forward to. Later this month, we hope to reveal our new theme, which is looking great thus far. With this new theme, we also plan on rearranging the forum’s layout a bit. We also plan on bringing back Writing Challenges and also we will be adding Writing Prompts to the mix. There will also be changes made to member profiles so that they may be customized to each member’s liking. We will also be adding buddies to the profiles and hopefully more. We will also be adding an “About Psychology of Writing” page so that current and future members may learn more about the creation of Psychology of Writing.

Other than what’s been mentioned above, we hope to continue to improve Psychology of Writing so that more people can enjoy it like so many of our current members do.

Re: Psychology of Writing ~ A Creative Community

We have officially moved to our new host and to a new domain. We are now http://www.psychologyofwriting.org due to many complications that occurred during transfer (dealing with our previous host, not the current one). We can now get back into the swing of things over on Psychology of Writing.
