This seems to be one of those things rife in the market, software torn between providing a top quality experience and supporting every host no matter how strange and exotic.
I lean towards the side of quality, but quite a few projects lean towards a software that is universal, probably because that bolsters their user bases.
This is one of those curious things which will probably become more and more prominent as the years go by with the most casual admins (which is probably a huge portion of sites) using one set of software and the more serious admins using another rather than these grand one size fits all pieces of software which try to do everything.
That is my opinion at-least.
