I am confused on how this works..

I had a B+ in Spanish class with an 88%. Our final exam is 15% of our grade and I got a 90% on it. That took my grade down to an 86%. How does that make sense at all?

Or am I just doing the math wrong..

I believe it should be from 87.8 to 88.68 with a probable mark of around 88.3, which would translate to an 88. However, there may be scaling or something of that sort.

ie. I can't see how it can be as low as 86 unless you've got your numbers wrong.

Talk to your teacher. If there was a mistake they can correct the grade on your permanent records.

I had a racist Spanish teacher last year, or something. She was from Paraguay and she didn't like this Colombian girl so when she got one accent marking wrong on a test she gave her a 60 while I got an 80 with 2 wrong sentences 😛.

You got the Math wrong, you have to look at the result as a whole, not a part.

Either something in yours or the teacher's math is off, or there is other things you are not accounting for: Other grades from the past, new grades, or other influences taking a part in your final grade (participation grades etc)

Doesn't matter; you take 85% of the 88 and add that to the 15% of 90 to get the final mark. I've calculated the correct mark to be somewhere between 87.8 to 88.68, which is clearly more than 86%.

This is assuming those figures are correct.
