RPG Lounge
A Q&A with Dragonborn99 and Twisted Fairytale
Well, I actually want to start off with a little intro. First, I have always been a fan of your forum. I see it all around the internet and always want to check it out. Unfortunately, I never have the time. Secondly, this will be the first review I have written without
Red Herring looking over my shoulder to correct my idiocy. So, let's boogie!
What are your thoughts on the theme/design of the forum? Where can RPG Lounge improve theme-wise?
Amazing question! I
think I asked you on another site why you were running Phpbb2 instead of 3 and you said because of the styles. Now, I could be completely wrong, and if I am, ignore that. But: I really like your style and I feel like it fits the topic of the forum very well. It sets the tone for a rather dark RP setting which I feel is the goal of your community. The banner looks simple yet fulfilling. Overall, good appearance!
But you also asked how to improve it, so I'll show you! First, you've got this awkward break under your logo. (picture below)

I don't like how there is that much of a space. It feels like there should be something else there, but there isn't. Know what I mean? In addition, the color of your moderators is very, very difficult to read. That purple against the dark layout creates strain on the eyes that is uncomfortable for anyone viewing the forum. Finally, your navigation buttons at the top are a little too dark on the edges. It cuts into the text in some cases. Since this is a questionnaire, I can't continue, but I hope those three points helped!
How do you think RPG Lounge can attract more RPG Gaming content? (Such as RPG game reviews, previews, etc.)
This is one of those 'activity' questions we always get asked and can never really answer... I mean, perhaps target your promotion. If you're looking for people to write game reviews or have some previews in some up-and-coming RPGs, target forums like IGN or GameSpot. Post around on their forums and have your forum in the signature. Adspace is good too, purchasing some adspace on related websites, if you have the required dough. You could try some events to give away copies of RPGs like Skyrim or what not. That may get some people in if you do it the right way!
I really wish I could give you more here, but we really never have a good answer on how to improve activity other than the basic answers.
What is your first impression when RPG Lounge loads up for you?
Well, when I load up your forum, it feels semi-professional. What I mean by that is, the appearance is good, with a few flaws that make it stand out as a "free forum," so I'm kind of conflicted. You have a lot of space for content. The theme is dark, but it suits the theme of your forum very, very well. When I see your forum, I like it. It doesn't give me much incentive to register. What I mean is, there isn't much to draw me in to register. I honestly don't know what you could do to fix that though. To give a straightforward answer: the first appearance I get from RPGLounge is that of a semi-professional, good looking forum. I think that's exactly where you can get while you're on a free host such as forumotion.
