How often do you post on your blog? Do you write your articles as they come to mind or do you brainstorm first and what is that process like? Do you write your articles in advanced and then post them? What are some tips you can give to those who are just in the beginning of the blogging experience?

My blog is actually about music and there is new music everyday, so honestly I try to post most I can to cover all the music.

So yeah it's alot daily!

I'm starting out blogging too.

What i do is per day:

- 2 if I'm free. So, one in the morning and one at night.
- 1 if I'm a bit busy
- none if i'm totally swamped

The ideal is one a day I feel. It keeps content fresh and can help with traffic and gain more readers. I read somewhere that 50 is good number to hit before you can relax abit. But im not really sure about that.

For brainstorming, I write things down in point form as they come to mind. And after that when I have time, then I write the whole thing. I do write snippets in advanced but not whole posts.

Let's hope both of us can do well with our blogs!

You guys talking about like personal blogs?

Mine is not really a personal blog. It's more of a current affairs/things that that affect my life thing. Something like thoughtcatalog but from my point of view.

Thank you both for your input. Mine is definitely more of a personal blog however, I try to write about things that other people may be able to relate to and/or find interesting. I now carry a little notebook with me wherever I go just in case an idea hits me. I always have my phone with me but there is just something different about literally writing an idea down instead of noting it in your phone. I do like the fact that my phone has a built in camera just in case there is a photo opportunity I'd like to seize as I do not always have my camera out and ready to shoot. I really want to make it a habit to post at least once a day but I am finding it's best to already have an idea of what to write about before I actually start attempting to post something.

With my first blog, I posted something like 5 articles a day. It drove me insane. So I reduced that amount to 1 a day. And it still drove me insane!

Now I blog only when I have a real need to (i.e. announcement, a rebuttal, etc.) My advice is to (1) find a pattern that you're comfortable with and (2) blog about something you're passionate about since there's never any guarantee of a steady income (if that's your goal).

When I used to own a blog, I used to shoot for one a day. One every other day isn't that bad either, especially if you're on your own. If you have a team of writers, then you can easily establish a schedule and keep things fresh.

Of course, your niche will dictate how often you need to post articles. For example, a news blog, or even a tech blog will need to create an article if something big happens, even if you've already met your quota for articles.

Same here, I agree.

My tips to others starting off would be...

1, Be patient!
2, QUALITY content with keywords, Links...ect Think it through and always plan and write ahead of time.
3, SEO and more SEO. It will take time, but later down the road you will see what is working for you and what's not.
4, Never stop blogging, some of the most successful bloggers out there have said they reached around the 1,000 mark before they got a decent amount of traffic. Again, it takes time and hard work.
5, Like JOSourcing said, make sure your blog niche is something you're passionate about, or you will get burned out and end up giving up eventually.

So to sum it all up... Quality content, Quality backlinks and never give up.

I do interviews on my some days I might only post one or two interviews and other days I can post up to 7 interviews
It all depends when a author replies to me then I post it

I guess it depends on the niche of the blog for me. If it's a personal one, then I post at random times. If it's a specific niche I tend to brainstorm and plan articles.

When I had my personal blog, I posted 3-4 times a week. That was my goal and I usually stuck to it. I think it depends on the niche of your blog though. If you're blogging about current events or technology, you could easily post once a day. If you have time to do that and topics to write about, I would say that sort of frequency should be your goal.

Sometimes I wish that I chose a specific niche however other times I'm glad I didn't because my options of what to write about are unlimited. I want to write about things that are interesting and what others will find interesting ultimately doing things interesting.

Gosh 1000 posts, that seems like a lifetime away. Yeah... if I post once a day every day that's only 365 posts!

Exactly! Glad someone else also experienced this. When I started my blog years ago I made such high goal of posting a lot every day, like 3-4. But then I quickly got tired, bored, or just too busy. Then I changed plan to at least 1 per day. But still it didn't always work. So I try to at least write 1 every other day, or spread it within a week so there wouldn't be empty days too long between entries.

I think it depends on your abilities. But best not to overdo it. It will definitely look better if there is 1 post everyday instead of 5 posts a day but randomly.

Writing down ideas when you get inspiration can help. You can have a bank of ideas and can choose from them when you need something to write. Back then I remember there were few kinds of events in which you posted something regularly every once in a while (at WordPress there was Friday 5; I answered 5 questions every Friday about random things). That kind of event can help to keep content on-going.

I post whenever I have inspiration to post. I don't hold myself to any deadlines and I don't tell myself what I can and cannot post. I don't care about activity to and from my blogs or whether or not I get comments. It's just my online journal.

It all depends on if I have the urge to write something or not, but generally I write on my blog a couple of times a week. I also have a few volunteer guest bloggers.

Thanks everyone for chiming in your thoughts on this matter it's really helping me out a lot. I am determined more than ever to just post once a day and stick with it as much as I can because in the long run I think that's what will benefit my blog as far as reeling in regular visitors. I'm running low on my ideas so I need to start building that up again in my notebook!

Good luck finding ideas! With technology nowadays, you can write a blog post even in your mobile phone, so you can write one instantly when an idea comes to you.

I also have a random new idea: if it's too much to write one elaborated post, you can talk about a photo or picture of the day and just write a short post about it, highlighting the photo/picture. 🙂

I used to post on my gaming one daily and it got quite a lot of views, in the thousands if I remember correctly. Due to life, uni and other things, I rarely post anymore sadly.

Actually, I've tried to do that... blog from my phone and even from my iPad but I always find myself going back to my laptop. I like being able to edit my posts and change the size and placement of pictures and stuff like that. 🙂

I think that's a great approach actually with the pictures thing. I've been writing my posts and then taking pictures afterwards (because I heard posting your own pictures is better than taking stock photos from online) but what if I was to do it backwards... take pictures and then write about those pictures. Thanks!

Thousands of views that is quite an accomplishment! If you still have it you should try to revive it again even if you only do a single post a month. I think that is worth keeping.
