I keep seeing all these sloppily made forums with the default skin and hardly any posts being advertised lately. Why don't people spend time setting up their forums, perhaps getting a couple people to help create topics/posts to generate some sort of atmosphere BEFORE releasing it to the public?

Some people don't think, nor do they read some of the Promotion Tricks, it also comes down to laziness.

I posted two of them....Cuz I suck at that sort of stuff to put it bluntly. 🙁

I know I wouldnt feel right advertising a forum that was 'under construction.'
People should put a little time and effort into their forum before they go around promoting it. Chances are a majority of people will not join a forum that appears to have little to no effort put into it.

Well with the two I'm working with, the one is very much up and going with a few years under it's belt, so I guess it really didnot qualify to the original statement, but the other one, despite being two years old is more like an infant with 285 registered users and a meger 1228 posts, that's why I'm here to hopefully change that.

I have learnt the hard way, now my next forum, which has already been advertised, has a theme, banner, decent layout of forums and categories and some posts to start off with.

Advertising your forum before it is established properly could have a detrimental effect on it. If a visitor clicks on one of your ads and goes to your forum, only to find it empty of posts and members, they are less likely to visit your forum when they see it advertised in the future, even if it is much busier at that time.

I agree 100%. +2 rep 🙂

I never open my forums unless a template, banner and some MODs are set up, also I fill all the forums with some topics to discuss. Usually though it only takes a few days at the most to get ready and release.

I see forums which have no posts, subdomains people won't remember and default skins all the time. Those forums will fail :|
