Its a quick topic mod.. Sorta like quick reply but for topics. ๐Ÿ˜› What do you think?

I don't see why when you could just as easily make a new topic from the view forum and coincidently the 'Start New Topic' button is right beside it.

You don't get any BBCodes or smilies either unless you remember what they are and you have to write them in manually.

Well its a good mod for people who don't want to use that and its faster. ๐Ÿ™‚ Its a optional feature anyway.

Oh yeah I agree, it's faster if you want to make a fast post, but probably not for the longer ones ๐Ÿ™‚

Yah thats what I mean like if it would be good mod for general discussion/forum games and stuff like that. Also probably tech support when people can use it as a quick way to make a quick topic.

I don't see how it is faster.

Click quick topic ---> wait for it to load ----> Type post and submit
Click new topic ---> wait for it to load ---> type post and submit.

As long as you are on a decent host, the difference should be minimal. If the server is slow to the point there is a noticeable speed difference between the two then the rest of the forum will be slow and that will annoy your members still so you aren't gaining anything except your members will be slightly less annoyed but only when posting topics.

My host is fast like same speed here on FP. But you don't gotta wait for it to load really its like quick reply its already in front of your face. xD

As i said the difference is minimal. If you have a decent host, the screen to type your new topic should load pretty quickly anyway. For me here it takes less then a second. It will sill take time for that pop up to appear although not alot. It is not really much quicker. I see it as less convenient as alot of items are missing from it.

I don't see how it's any better to be honest, if it was on the index page then that would be pretty cool, but it's right next to the new topic button, it's pointless.

Also it's not a MOD, I'm being picky and OCD here but hey what can you do ๐Ÿ˜› MyBB doesn't have any MODs, they are plugins because no of the original code is edited, every feature that you 'install' is plugged in, the software itself isn't modified ๐Ÿ˜›

my opinion is that it is not needed and on the other hand having it installed is not a harm too. ๐Ÿ™‚

so what i would suggest you is to take the consideration of your own forum members into consideration once you have got good members that they want this feature or not ๐Ÿ™‚

If it was on the index page then you would need to specify a forum to post the topic in unless you have it show near the total posts of each forum although that might look a bit cluttered if there was a quick new topic button for every forum.

BTW, his forum is IPB and not MyBB

But still, you don't really expect a full-fledged features in most Quick Reply features in different forum software. Besides, it is quicker. As a matter of fact, by clicking Quick Topic, you don't load anything else again, because I'm 99% sure that the Quick Topic feature uses AJAX, which allows you to add things to the page without the need to reload. MyBB, IPB, and now XenForo are all doing excellent jobs in integrating AJAX with PHP and the database structure (MySQL or equivalent), because really, it's convenient in the front-end and it's also efficient.

So then it would be a hook (it should be noted that "big" IPB mods are applications). ๐Ÿ˜›

In short, go for it Scourge.

First of all, ๐Ÿ˜› Secondly, I'm tired and third; IPB isn't as good as MyBB anyway ๐Ÿ˜€

Looking at it from Fowler's point of view, I don't see a need for this mod. As was said, it may be good for multi-tasking purposes...e.g. reading a topic but wanting nto reply to another one at the same time, but otherwise I don't feel this serves much of a purpose.

Well I think this would be a good idea providing there was something like a select box to choose the forum you wanted to post in, but in it's current form it is pointless.

Since you're not reloading a page, it will be faster, but minimal.

I think you should ask your forum's members. ๐Ÿ˜›

Honestly it doesn't matter how cool we think it is, it's what your members think that matter. That being said, if I was a member of your forum, I'd say add it! :great:
