Racism

I personally say who care, dont waste money on that... feed the poor or something... Weather people say it or not its gonna be there, weather the gov say you cant... people will. Its a waste of money. Its sad people see like that but you can stop how people feel

Are you telling me his books are being rewritten for the sole purpose of deleting the word "ni@@er"?

Rewriting a book and modifying the original mode of expression is pretty much revisionism. Mark Twain's work gives us a good idea on the thought of 19th century post civil war America. So, no, his work should not be rewritten to accomodate certain people's sensitivities.
Well it was rewritten.

Yes. The "Nígger" was all changed to "slave", and "injun" was changed to "Indian"

Wow. That's revisionism. It's not good in my opinion. It sugar coats the hard truth about an American writer who was an absolute product of his time and place. Such revisionism is a disservice to all Americans because it prevents them from knowing the truth!

I'm still quite offended. Should it not say "Native American"?

No, it should [still] say Injun/N*gger because it's Mark Twains book and choice of words, not yours.

No, actually, it's my choice. He's dead, so that means the book belongs to me now. Me specifically, no one else. I decide.

He's been dead for 100 years. I believe the copyright falls in the public domain. 🙁

Regardless of copyright laws, it's not just disrespectful, it takes the whole meaning of the racial charge and hate of the time totally out and replaces it with búllshit.

Hehe this convosation is alway going to get out of hand, it doesnt matter if your Black, White, Asian, Mexicain or anything else.

But if you go somewhere illegally and then break our laws, i think you should be hated, not for being a diffrent colour, speaking a diffrent language, having diffrent views. Just simply for disrespecting the laws of the place you are.

For example if i went to a strong muslim country and tried to change it then i wouldnt be liked there, but if a muslim comes to my country and trys to spread their religion but if i don't like it and express my opinion im racist.

The moral of my essay is 'Racism works both ways'.

These are just my opinion, if you don't like it simply don't read it. Simples

So even though underneath everything, you and I are alike (human), I should still hate you because you are running away from a country full of gangs about to kill you and then seeking asylum in my country after escaping illegally?

This is a poor example to back up your justification of "disrespecting laws of the place". Spreading a religion in UK isn't against UK laws if the religion is say Islam. Spreading Islam isn't disrespecting the laws of UK.

Your example isn't about disrespecting laws; it's about not conforming to mainstream society.

But the issue with that comment is that this is a debate forum, not a "add your opinion and that's it" forum. Expect your opinion to be debated, not liked, liked, appreciated or whatever people think. "Simples".

Hey guys, I've deleted two posts. Let's stick to making posts that actually contribute to the debate. You know who you are.

 That would probably be me. Or maybe that was another thread.

If you are offended by Mark Twain's novel, don't read it. He wrote it with the words he wanted to use; if you don't like what he's written, you can read another book.

Exactly. The words are a time capsule of the period, to take them from the novel strips it of its historic value.

Jeesh, just listen to "Black Eyed Peas - Where is the Love". It shows the dirtiness of the previous U.S president, George Bush.
