Random promotion methods?

Everyone knows and has heard about promoting through forums, social media and the like. But what are some methods of promotion you have used in the past that have been random or different?

I haven't done it, but I've heard of people leaving notes on napkins to there website.

I use Xbox LIVE to promote my forums, mainly because they're based on that platform and I have free access to millions of gamers to promote to directly.

Notes on napkins is a great and innovative way for sure.

And I like the Xbox live method. How'd that work out for you?

I like to promote in blog communities and visiting other blogs. These are my favorite 2, besides optimizing for Google that is. I get to know other bloggers and often times they share my blog with others as I do the same for them. These methods get me a nice amount of traffic along with Google. Tho I would like to try something new too.

If its a niche website e.g gaming I have tried notices in Colleges/schools and such
