Ranks

I've noticed that on many forums the staff changes their ranks to suit their mood, while they still are Moderators or whatever, but the normal users can't. On other forums, their rank stays and never gets changed, and I think it may be more fair for the members.

Whats your opinion on staff changing their ranks while normal members can't?

Hmmm well, on this anime forum we had and i was an admin, we werent a lot of members, so we made a general post saying "when you want your rank name changed, just PM me and her and her"
so it didnt bother anybody...
when on a specific forum (like Bleach) and you have ranks, we have a policy of nobody can change so we know who you are type of thing ^^;

On my forum the staff can change their rank every month if they wish. On another forum they can do it whenever they wish. On the forum I first went to they only had the default ranks. It seems it just the Administrator's decision.

Anyone against having the staff change their ranks whenever they want?

Mine are set in stone, because it helps to identify them as what they are. The group colors on my forum are very close shades between admin, mods, and uber memebrs, so sometimes you need the extra little hint -D-

I think ranks should be set once and not changed unless the user is promoted or demoted. Ranks are there to let members know who is in what position.

If the ranks change every week then it will just cause confusion amongst the masses 🙂

The forum that I know changes their personal ranks alot has rank images and a rank text field, and then they are also different colors from other members. I guess its pereference

I think that members and moderators shouldn't have personal rank.You will get more forum or website space if you don't add custom ranks.
But i suppose it suppense what kind of forum your on mate.

It's your decision if your asking for our opininions for your forum.

I havent changed the ranks on my forum since I created it in 2007. Maybe its time for some updates. -razz-

We have it so all staff have Forum (rank here) in bold under their name, we also have it so that only Premium members can change their User titles..

On my forum, when a member gets 200 posts, I will change their rank if they want, and they can PM me and ask for a new change every 3 weeks. Staff can change whenever they want.

I don't see a point in why to let someone change their own rank. I've given my mods the choice to have a posting rank or the moderator rank. They all chose posting rank. But people can still see they are mods, based on their username color

I know on phpbb3. admins are the only one that can change ranks. but if a moderator or any other usergroup other than admin wants a different rank name. they need to ask a admin. I allow it on my forum.
