As some of you may be aware if you have been following us on Social Media, we recently released a special announcement to say that our customers are now able to install SSL Certificates without the need for a dedicated IP address. You might be wondering "How is that even possible?". Well, the answer is "Server Name Indication". You can look it up on Wikipedia...if you're willing to get lost in their jungle of words. To put it simply, though, Server Name Indication (SNI for short) is an extension to the TLS protocol that indicates what hostname the client is trying to connect to at the start of what's known as the "handshake". Anyway, leaving technical details out of the equation for the sake of our non-technical readers, Server Name Indication allows a server to present multiple certificates on the same IP address and port number. 😉 This means that multiple secure websites (i.e. https with the green padlock symbol) are able to operate off of the same IP address without requiring those websites to use the same certificate. That's right! You can have your very own Private SSL without the cost of a dedicated IP address (which are in short supply right now due to the global shortage of IPV4 addresses). 😎
So, to celebrate this new ability we are now offering SSL Certificates over at https://www.rathosting.com/sslcertificates.php PLUS a completely FREE SSL installation service if you happen to be a Rat Hosting shared hosting or a Rat Hosting reseller hosting customer. 🙂
On that note, I'd like to wish you all a very happy Bank Holiday weekend.
Rat Hosting support, as usual, will be operating outside of business hours.
