What do you think about having to Read the Terms & Conditions before you can even access a site or forum?
I’ve come across that before.
I can see sites doing it however, it never guarantees someone actually READS it. They just have to click I AGREE. To make it look more legit, you just need to set a timer for a couple of minutes if it’s more than one page.
Agreed, it's fine to do it, but most will just scroll past and get to the next screen. I always skim just in case, but a TOS is a TOS, seen one you've seen them all.
It depends with me. If when I do a glance at it and it looks like yet another generic tos, I won't generally read it. As most forums and content sites will have a generic one listed. If I see that it has the potential to be different, or is drastically longer than what I expected, I will look for anything that looks like a key item, and read the generic summary paragraph and a few key points in those sections, and will go back to it to read more in depth, when I have the time to do so.
99% of the time I don't read them, I click agree and continue. I feel that most people do the same thing honestly. However in some rare occasions, there are websites that make you scroll down before you can even click agree. Of course still you didn't have to necessarily read the TOS, just scroll the task bar down and then you're good to go.
It depends on the TOS as to whether I read it or not. If a quick scan through tells me it's basically the same as most generic TOS on other sites then I will just accept on go into the site. If I notice some differences in the TOS then I will read through it to find out anything I should know before I progress. Most are generic though.
Some sites to make them specifically for their site so I usually will have a look when going to a new site to see if their is something different I need to know.
To be fair, I seldom read the TOS. Just generally overview them quickly to see what subheads they contain and if it's any different then the standard TOS.
I think most TOSs can be summed into "use common sense", so I generally don't read them. Unfortunately, some have very crucial information that people should probably know, it's why a site like ToS;DR exists.
