Freeforums.org and a lot of the free hosting sites don't allow you to put in real meta tags. The meta tags you put in are real but they are the keyword meta tags and none of the other 15 or so. What could the others be, audience, author, manner of checking, how frequently to check, these are some examples. This really raised my rank on google very quickly. Look below for the instructions. This is very simple and NO html or coding experience is neccessary....

1. First go to http://www.cydots.com
---This is a site where you can get a short URL for you site. You will be making one but nothing will happen to your site just keep reading the instructions.
2. Next go through the steps to create an account.
---By default the short url you enter WILL NOT redirect to any site so your not doing anything to your site, don't worry.
3. You have made your url now log in and go to the admin panel on the site.
---Go to the General setup section and make sure your URL doesn't redirect to any site. (it shouldn't)
4. Now go to the Meta Tags section and fill out the form.
---It will generate your meta tags for you. Copy past into your meta tags section in your Administrative panel. (for phpbb2, no clue where to put it on 3)
5. Edit it (quick and simple)
---Get rid of all the returns and just add spaces in between each set of brackets so this coding can fit in the meta tags section for free hosting. (You may also get the index.tpl file and put the code in the HEAD section without having to edit it.)

I get a meta tag generator with my host already. 😀

And I use vBulletin - which is a lot easier to insert your meta tags and site description which gets indexed in search engines.

Regards Jason 🙂

In phpBB3 you can paste them in to the overall header in the template that bots are set to use if you have access to that file.

This is just for free hosting on phpbb2 sites.

i have full access to all the template files on my free hosting on phpbb2 so i just add the meta tags in overall_header.

Maybe this isn't what you're looking for, but I use a modded version of phpbb called phpbb-seo. It allows you to control meta tags among many other things (i.e. clean urls). Their version for phpbb3 Gold just came out. You can get it at http://phpbb-seo.com
