Well, one reason is you need one to setup blogs and forums. That's true unless you are making some Forumotion, ProBoards thing etc. However, though, it seems tons of people are mostly on mobiles, but web developers have to have computers, generally? Are their people on here who access stuff mostly thru mobiles or tablets?

What are other reasons to have a computer, like gaming?

There are a million reasons to have a computer, especially as our lives continue to revolve around the Internet and technology.

Mobile optimization and all that jazz has really been a game changer this last decade, but you really can’t beat having a keyboard and a mouse. Using a touch screen/keypad on a cell phone or a tablet really doesn’t compare.

Gaming is one reason although another is simply to do every day work like emails and word processing. Doing that on a mobile / tablet is not all that easy.

  1. Work from home, most people work from home more now than 5 years ago
  2. Everything nowadays is based on tech and online, even online shopping is more a thing.
  3. Gaming, who doesn't game 😛
  4. Media point of view, like news or Facebook stuff.
  5. Streaming. We do not know it but we watch Netflix and amazon with any TV. far more people can't live without it.
  6. We banks closing there stores far more people are doing online banking more and more
  7. PC are part of our life 😛

I imagine it won't be too many years before mobile phones become powerful enough to completely replace computers in the home although you'll still need connectivity to peripheral devices such as VDUs and input devices etc.

Right now I use a PC/Mac in my recording studio, as well as for storing and playing music and viewing photographs, for graphics design, occasional streaming, coding, forum admin, email and letter writing. There's probably a whole lot more that I've forgotten about.

but web developers have to have computers, generally?
This is very true, you can't easily develop much on a smart phone. The downside of that is development for the consumers of social media took a back seat for far to long. The majority of forum software still has a long way to go before it fulfills the potential of mobile interaction.

Well, there are a lot more people that are working from home since the pandemic thing started. I think I would like to work from home but I have a job where that's not feasible.

To play games, write, listen to music watch stuff on YouTube, web surf to name a few.
