Recommended Books for Forum Admins?

Well, my blog, Warriors of Roleplay isn't a book but I do blog about forum advice and stuff, and it's free 🙂 I hope to get another article posted on it. A lot of it is roleplay related but I include forum management.

Can I put the link on here or is that not allowed? XD

BTW thanks for recommending my book! Nobody buys it; I think that's because it tells you you have to work hard XD

Thanks for asking Acorn, you'd be very welcome to post a link to your blog here.

Thank you! Here it is: Warriors of Roleplay, though it is actually also general forum management. I just put out a new article today {well, yesterday technically} and update it more often than my ebook. The article up there now is about flubbing your stats XD

Are books like that even really accurate though? I would like to find some and read some, but everyone has their own style of forum owning that they prefer. Sure, if it was common things that ALL forum owners should have, like etiquette and stuff like that, then I can see something like this being accurate. But if it's one of those things like what to do in certain situations, then I'd probably be scratching my head on that as everyone runs their forum differently, all forums are different depending on the genera and the owner.

I agree with you Ashley that running forums is something that everyone does differently. It would probably be true to say that managing forums is much more of an art than a science, hence you probably wouldn't describe the books as accurate. However, they do give good info on the experiences of the writers and what they learned from many years of running their own forums. Hence, they are helpful and you can get good ideas from them, but they won't give you step by step instructions of what you need to do to start from zero to create a hugely successful forum.

Well, I guess it would be a lot more accurate if it was one of those deals where administrators are providing testimonials from their experiences of either currently running a forum or how they tried to run a forum but it didn't work out for what ever reason. So yeah I see your point there.

What you get with these books and articles are what worked for one person. I imagine that the best way to get a lot out of them is read several accounts and see what they have in common. Are all 5 people recommending you use a certain kind of advertising technique, for instance? Chances are it will work for at least most people then.

I have done my best to include in my ebook and articles, what I've observed on other forums as well as done on my own forums, but again, it is all my own observations.
