Pre-Launch Review

Site Name: RecreationBB
Site Type: Fun/Sports Forum
Age: ~1 day

Appearance

For the header I think you did it great. I like how the banner reflects the recreational fun and sports. Although the name of the forum is only a bit at the top left part, it doesn't really bring negative effect. My suggestion will be to let the banner links to the index page as well for easier navigation. I see you haven't added a favicon yet. Perhaps something that resembles your forum's name? The body of the forum is quite good. Nice work with different icons for each forum. I noticed you put "new" as the marker for new posts. I think it's quite novel, although looking slightly strange because of its position. It needs to stand out more; change to a brighter color or give special effect like blinking are some options. Topic icons are MyBB's standards; a tweak there would be great. Other icons/images are pretty good, it matches the theme though you can also replace it with more colorful sets so the white scheme won't be too boring. The footer is fine, nothing too flashy there.

I don't know if you also have this problem or if it's because of my computer's resolution, but I see a horizontal scroll bar when viewing your forum. When I scroll to the right there is nothing.

Layout

Layout wise I think you've done a great job so far. The challenge will probably to actually explain to members and visitors what "recreational games" actually are, what kind of threads/posts they can make or expect from you. Whereas for sports section it is all clear, you need to work harder on the recreation part. Maybe creating sub-forums for popular recreational games to start with? I think it will also be a good idea to categorize sports based on the type and having "basketball", "baseball", and so on as the sub-forums. That way you can concentrate posts better than being specific right away. For general discussion it is good in current position. If you want to pack things out and be very focused, you can merge the general discussion sections into one forum only and put it as forum under first category.

First Impressions and Interest

I think you managed to leave a quite good first impression, being "recreational" and "fun". The pictures and colors relayed that message to me. The forum content itself is still quite empty, so that's the part to work out on. Other than that, quite an interesting forum to check out.

Content

What can I say for content of a forum only one day old? I can see that some threads have been added, so keep working on that as you try to invite members to join in the discussions. Add unique content as much as you can which encourages posting more than once. I don't see a problem with grammar so far. In your forum descriptions you used a lot of "here" and "post that here". If you can rephrase that into other sentences, it will make the descriptions more varied and fun to read. For example you can use "A place to..." or "Your room for xxx-related discussion...". Try to brainstorm more words and synonyms to make things more colorful. About the posts themselves, try to add more to the post, especially first post. You can elaborate, add information about the games you're talking about in case someone doesn't know what the game is instead of just "Do you play it? What do you think of it?". Save your experience for other post to encourage discussion, ask members about their experiences, and so on.

Words from the Reviewer

RecreationBB is unique and specific enough, in my opinion. The fundamental problem of such kind of forum is about bringing in audience with similar interest to build the community. The forum needs one or two adjustments to go, so meanwhile you can start to research on your target audience. Good luck with that.
