I have sene forums advertise their site on Reddit, and get some members by doing so. Like advertising on Craiglist, has anyone tried promoting their forum on Reddit? Have you had members join based off of your Reddit ad?
I don't really know Reddit that well, how do you even use it? I would love to try and see how much people I can get on my forum from advertising on there.
I'm not sure if Reddit would be the best place to advertise. A lot of the communities there have strict rules, and they don't really encourage promotion. You'd have to be real creative and make sure it truly fits in, otherwise, it would probably be removed.

Reddit is like a forum comprised of mini-forums. Each subreddit is a separate community, but people often visit many subreddits and your front page is made up of posts or images from all of the different communities. 🙂
Advertising through Reddit has been the most effective traffic method I've yet to discover, both in quality and quantity. However, you need to have some high quality and/or unique content to get anywhere with it. You advertise your content, not your site, ideally in response to topics rather than making your own. This way, people are more likely to follow your links, and because you're helping a topic, you won't end up breaking any rules. You should also upvote everything you respond to, so that it gets extra exposure.
If you are going to promote on Reddit, it is best to make sure you are not linking directly to your website or forum in general. Instead, link to a specific blog post or thread.
The best way to do this with a forum is to create a thread that talks about a recent news story. Make sure it has all the information that an actual news story would have. Images, quotes, links to related articles, and more should all be in the thread. This will allow you to post the forum thread link to Reddit as a news story and not get flamed for aimlessly promoting your own website.
Reddit's also amazing for sharing videos, so if you are in the YouTube business you should be linking to a reasonable amount of them in a related subreddit.
My Wario site's been advertised on there for a while. Not by me, by some other member.
That said, while it got some upvotes, it didn't really do a lot, since the Wario fandom on Reddit isn't particularly big and the subreddit is pretty much a ghost town:
I didn't know you could actually advertise on Reddit? It seems interesting enough to say the least. I'm not really sure how much it will benefit me in the end.
I've never attempted to advertise through Reddit, though I'm sure I'll be implementing some sort of way to share content easily with social networks, which should achieve the same effect (with minimal effort).
I second what the others have said. You can't just promote your website or forum through Reddit - you have to really have good, unique content that matters, and post it to the appropriate subreddit. Otherwise, people will downvote it (effectively hiding it) and it'll generate no traffic.
I heard that reddit is very useful in promotion but you can not take its advantage unless you don't know how it works. I try it but not got much success. There is some called "subreddits" like "/news" etc. These play a very important role in promoting on reddit.
If you have time you can spend on exploringg and researching Reddit. I sure its has great potential for promotion. :great: :great: :great:
