I'm thinking of running both a Posting & a Referal Contest on UKG in the near future.

And I'm struggling to think up a good prize for the contest, and also trying to work out whether to make the contest last a month of a couple of weeks.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Most people use cash but alot of people don't have a paypal and stuff like that so they find it super useless. They might not have a forum so you can't offer posts on it. This same thing got me confused. Isn't your forum about gaming? You could get them a game or something or maybe membership on a game site.

Well I have thought of doing something relating to getting a game or something similar to that (even giving special features on UKG's Trackmania server seeing as TM is a free game.

And got the following from a friend of mine when I spoke to him about it:
When you organise events to inspire posting, offering money for the most posts made isn't the first thing that springs to mind.
Generally things to inspire posting not buy it are the way to go, but hey whatever works out, maybe the members will come up with some interesting discussion sparked by all the new posts! Or maybe it'll just die out when someone gets the money and there's nothing happening any more.

I think that posting competitions promote too much spam. If you do them you must have clear and harsh rules against that. I like referral contests much better, but then you have to worry about cheating.

Personally, I dislike referral competitions. What good is it having members with 0 posts? As your member count increases, your post count will not increase as much.

I would say a posting competition, but with good moderators on your forum, looking out for each post made.

Contests like member of the month or most helpful member can be more successful than posting or referral contests, which can often result in a huge amount of spam.

When thinking of prizes, consider what would be of value to the members on your forum. Maybe a badge saying member of the month, what about free ad space on your forum or perhaps some PayPal cash?
