Referral Directory

Design Quality

I really like the design of your site and it is refreshing to see a forum using something other than the typical blue that so many forums use these days. But I notice while you have orange set as your default color, you also give members the opportunity to change that color. This is a great feature and one I wish more forums used. I tested that out and while there was no delay in initially changing the theme color, it does briefly go back to the default orange when I load a new page or refresh the current one. I'd imagine this is a side effect of the javascript used for such a feature, but if you can find a way to make that slight delay in loading go away, you definitely should.

The one thing I don't like on your design is your logo. Your font is hard to read and honestly doesn't give the best impression of professionalism. More specifically, the tagline "Earn RD$, Get Rewarded" (despite not being the best tagline) is hard to read with its gray color. The wallet/money icon you are using doesn't really match your "Referral Directory" name - a folder/file icon would better fit your forum and you would definitely benefit from a more custom icon, because the one you have doesn't look custom designed at all.

Site Statistics

You currently have just over 6,000 posts in 846 threads on your forum at the time writing this section. This is a good amount, especially since it seems you have content pretty well spread out across the forum. However, I noticed one forum - Official RD$ Tasks - has no posts/topics in it at all and it's at the top of the second category. This does not look good to guests or members, so you should either use that forum or hide it from member/guest viewing till you are ready to use it. It also looks like your package service is much more popular than your others. I can see why - your review service probably hasn't shown its expertise and your advertising services are useless on a not-so-active forum. Re-evaluate what you are offering and what you can provide at your forum's current stage. Finally, your Graphics area only has 8 topics. I suggest making it a sub forum until it becomes more popular so it doesn't look so empty on the index.

Originality

Your niche is not an easy one for originality and unfortunately you aren't going to score well in this category. I don't see much at all that makes you stand out or makes your forum worth joining and using your services. I see the same forum sections, services, etc. on any promotion forum I review or visit, including FP. Your Official RD$ Cash forum could have potential to stand out, especially since your tag line mentions RD$, which is why it is so disappointing to see that section completely empty. There just isn't much originality on your forum.

Very Poor

Final Remarks
I can see you've put some time into the forum, but unfortunately you just don't stand out in a crowded niche with nothing original to offer. I suggest finding unique services and features to draw in members. Best of luck!

Thank you for your honest feedback about Referral Directory Forum! 🙂

Not a huge fan of long domains and the one used for your site is not the easiest to remember to be honest. The theme is simple but nice and works great with your forum. The stats are great too although a few forums could do with a bit more posting as they seem a bit inactive

Referral Directory Forum

First Impressions

My first impressions of RD are neutral. To start off, the image on your logo looks very good. The logo image is one of the most overrated parts on a forum. A good logo image sets an image in your viewer's head of what your forum is about; and RD's logo image does a very good job of that. As we slide to the right, we see your forum's name on the other side of the logo. Honestly, this font needs a lot of work; it's almost unreadable. I'd highly recommend you pull this up in PhotoShop and put a different font on it. One that's a little more clear, and really says "Referral Directory" better than the one you're currently using.

Your current theme is OK. It could definitely use some work. The orange as the default just rubs my eyes the wrong way. It doesn't set the impression that you want to set with a visitor; because it looks really hard on my eyes, even if I chose a different color other than orange. MyBB has a ton of themes available for use, and RD would progress a lot further if they could get a cleaner, easier on the eyes theme. Something like a soft red, or maybe even a tan color would be very appealing for your forum's genre.

In addition, with your current theme, you have the option for board-specific icons. These are a major things that could help break up some of the orange in your current theme (should you decide to stick with your current theme). If you could add some ones that are different for every board (they're easy to find on IconFinder), it would add a ton of looks to your current design.

I'm not sure what the point of Referral Directory is. On one hand, it seems like a pay-to-post forum, because of all the RD $ exchange services. On the other hand, you also seem like a promotion forum. You have all of the normal promotion services (packages, reviews, ect.). While neither of these things is bad; but it confuses me. What is the purpose of Referral Directory? This is something that I cannot figure out, but I would like to figure out. The easiest way to fix this would be either make a dedicated section for RD $ exchanges, and put it at the top (if you want a pay-to-post forum), or put the pay-to-post section at the bottom, and maybe even hide it to guests.

Final Remarks
Referral Directory is off to a good start. You need to improve your logo text, add a cleaner theme, and establish an identity. If you can do those things, you'll definitely be successful. The hardest part is already behind you, because you've already got a good bit of activity and content. Best of luck!

I really like the theme you are using on your forum. I think orange is a very underused color with themes. It pops out right away and I like it a lot.

You're off to a good start. I would start to create more content based discussion in the general theme of your forum, referrals. You have 2,000+ posts in the general discussion portion, but very few in the more important areas of your forum. Focus and you will have success.

I love the theme. I love the orange and how the header has the logo on the left and the menu on the right.
I also love the color picker. It's awesome!

I would say that the shoutbox should be at the bottom rather than the top. Is the shoutbox the main thing you want people to focus on when they join?

I don't really see any actual issues with your forum though the descriptions seem to be perfect and formatted correctly.

Thank you for your positive and negative feedback everyone. I'm sure this will help improve Referral Directory.

Your forum is running well, the design is very good too. I think you need to have some promote plan to spread out the forum in the future

I noticed that a few days ago myself. Me being an administrator, I will go ahead and get us started with more threads in the sections on what the forum is really about.

As other's have said, content is key. Your forum looks great. I love the simple and professional design. The logo looks good too, with the exception of the font. I feel like it is too compacted, the lettering that is. Maybe try a simpler font that goes with the overall theme and design of your forum. The subtext is pretty hard to read.

I think you have just enough boards, definitely not too many. People tend to put a huge amount of forums on a site like this with out even needing to do so as they can combine them. I think you did a good job with this. Overall, your site has a lot of potential. I wish you the best of luck.

Now that you've been open a while I would suggest maybe adding custom forum icons? I think they would bring your forum to the next level.

Also, you haven't really worked hard on adding good content onto your site. Please add content - otherwise you'll have a hard time adding new membership.

Just as a note, I would usually rate my first impressions as part of the review, but I am going to forgo my first impressions, and just dive into an extra area that I would otherwise not do, because of how many sections a standard review has.

You probably don't want to get nagged about this a whole lot, since Cameron does own the forum, but could you see about getting Referral Directory more active? The forum has been running for a year and a half, and only managed to get 7500+ posts overall on it. It doesn't reflect well for a forum of that age, to have that many posts and 268 members. Try to get you and the rest of the staff, and Cameron to be more dedicated with posting!

Most of your boards haven't had any new content in the past month. And even in the boards that have had replies recently, most of the threads haven't been replied to in more than a month! Get everyone to want to post new topics, and to reply to topics they haven't replied to recently! If you have to, enforce a 14 post a week minimum on posting, so to ensure that everyone averages 2 posts a day! I probably will want your staff to get some of the topics to have 2 pages minimum before creating more topics, so that it looks like they are actually being posted in.

Also, get your staff to request things that haven't been requested in awhile, so to stimulate a little bit of interest in your services of any member that might be on the forum recently. It doesn't bode well for a service oriented forum, if no services but post packages are being requested at all. Infact, it looks like you don't even have a review staff team setup. Get hiring, and get your staff to start posting.

Also, after motivating your staff to start posting, and after a few days of them starting to post, send out a mass email to encourage your members to come online and post themselves. I am sure that most won't mind coming back to the forum, if you have staff posting for a few days before the email is sent out.

Originality
Honestly, the forum genre and boards aren't that original. Most of the service items you can find either here at FP, or elsewhere. Infact, the signature ads used to be a service here at FP. I suggest that you try to vary what you offer a little more. Create new services if you have to! That, or just modify what you have, to be a little bit more unique. For example, you could have 4 week signature ads, instead of 2 week ads. Or you can do affiliate ads that run for a couple of weeks.

Spelling & Professionalism
As far as I can tell, even though Cameron did his best to be professional during the transition of ownership, not all the staff have caught on with being professional. I have seen suggestion and feedback topics archived earlier than needed, and topics that little input was put into them, on those subjects.

Plus it appears as if you have issues with teams finishing packages being requested. There are packages currently waiting to be done, and no one has started them yet. You need to get staff who are committed, and are willing to go the extra mile to be online and actually do the jobs they are hired to do. The more dedicated staff you have, the better your forum will be, and the more active it will be also.

Rating: Very Poor

Final Remarks
You have allot of issues. Get fresh and active staff, and half of the issues will probably fix themselves. Good luck!
