Regarding Downtime

I may be late to the party because I couldn't view FP until like 2 days ago. I couldn't get email in those days until just now... so I logged in. Glee. Whee. Thanks DDoS script kiddies.

Also, this downtime also confirms CLOUDFLARE... IS... TRASH.

Cloudflare was not the result of this downtime. Cloudflare is pretty great when you know how to use it.

Let me put it this way: When you posted THIS thread, I click the link from email. It was freezing, not able to display. Just not resolving for me. When I clicked another link from FP.. Same, and get this: Each loop has "cf" and a bunch of URL strings. Not even typing "forumpromotion.net" worked.

CLOUDFLARE IS TRASH.

It didn't even say "server is offline" or something like that. It was a blank page with error reporting.

When there's a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) Attack, its objective is to overwhelm a server with traffic to cause the server to shut down or its IP to become null, which can cause the issues you were experiencing.

That said, as I said above, Cloudflare wasn't the issue. When a DDoS occurs, system operations may not be running optimally, which causes situations like yours. Chances are, your browser couldn't get all the responses back due to the DDoS at that time.

I can create a thread if you would like a quick rundown of Cloudflare. Let me know if you'd like that 🙂

Like @Carlos X I'm not Cloudflare's biggest fan but I do appreciate that given the current circumstances it's a useful and necessary tool. It did result in some inaccurate pages suggesting I was banned from accessing the forum but regardless, I'm please to see FP back on-line 🙂

So, during the DDoS, we had to perform certain actions that blocked most traffic, including legitimate traffic. Your IP was most likely a victim of one of those actions.

I think Cloudflare is great and very complex; I was initially not fond of it. I found it confusing and lacked information like what to do in this scenario. But I think now I've got the hang of things where I would prefer it on all my sites.

I know what a DDoS is.

Usually, when a website is offline under Cloudflare or similar services - they show what's happening on the website's side - is the server down? Its offline. So when a DDoS attack happens, the source server is offline. I know this. But Cloudflare couldn't handle THAT. That's what I noticed during this downtime. I laughed (chuckled) a few times during this ordeal.

I already know what Cloudflare is. I hate it. Its annoying.

Hello all,

You may have noticed our site was unavailable these past few days. This was due to an unfortunate DDoS attack. We are actively working to improve our DDoS mitigation tactics and utilizing more resources from Cloudflare. However, no data was compromised.

You may experience disruptions trying to access Forum Promotion over the next few weeks while we adjust to see what works and what doesn't.

We apologize for the inconvenience. We hope to get back to normal operation as soon as possible.
Very sad news 😞
Hope you finde the culprit for these devastating actions
