registered a new domain: im in over my head >.<

I just recently did this myself through godaddy.com ... and i'm THEE grand NOOB when it comes to foruming, believe me 🙂

depending on what forum hosting you go through, you may need to contact their support forum; and refer your title as something like "questions with Manual Domain hosting setup?" as long as the forum provider's support actually helps their members, you'll be good to go.

through proboards, sadly i use them, i had to go through my godaddy account, and input 3 redirecting DNS server codes under the "manage domain account" to redirect to my forum.

it won't just redirect to your forum, it'll replace your original forum url, as well 🙂

I know i couldn't help, but just trying to reassure you, it's possible, cause if i was able to do it, ANYONE can. just check your forum providers support board. or maybe someone here will have more insight on the subject than i do.

Basically you need to ask your host for their nameservers (they look like ns1.example.com and so on) .

Once they give you them you can then add them as the nameservers for that domain in your domains control panel and then you need to wait about 48 hours then all you need to do is either (if you can) park the domain in your acp. Most hosts have this so section where if you own a domain you type it in and it starts using that instead of your hosts sub domain. If they don't have that section you need to ask your host to park it for you.
 
Yeah, like fowler said, which was why i provided the link for my trial through this with my provider's walk through.

in my godaddy account, there were 5 spaces for the NS servers, two of them were already filled in ... which those original redirected to the home domnain's "home page" provided by goDaddy.

But, once you get the NS server links from your forum provider, you'll want to delete any if there are, and make sure those are the only ones in the spaces, so it ONLY redirects to your site, and "masks" over the original url of your site.

i got 3 from proboards

n.proboards.com / n2.proboards.com / n4.proboards.com

^^ they'll look similar to these once you get yours, just not "proboards", lol.
 
thanks! i think i resolved the issue. i found the part that was explaining how to do it
went in and plugged in the forums IPs on the domain control panel...now i just need to wait 24 hours to see if it worked -roll-

That sounds like it should work. How long ago did you put in the forum's IP?

It can take anywhere from a few hours to 72 hours to work. Also does your host have nameservers rather then IP's? Nameservers would be better as sometimes hosts change the IPs which can affect your domain.

I know just how excited you are, now. The biggest goof i made on my forum was registering the forum. when it asked for my name, i thought it wanted my username, lol ...

i went from www.hcfwesker.proboards62.com to www.brawldomain.com ... it was SUCH a blessing when i learned that it could be changed, and masked over the original url 🙂
