Have any of you ever had to ban a popular member from your forum before?

If so, what was it for?

Did it cause any problems afterwards? Did you lose other members? If there was problems, how did you cope with them and overcome them?

Yep, several times over the years. It causes problems at first, because popular members have friends on forums, but eventually it settles back down again. There's a risk you'll lose a member or two, of course, but if the community is a solid one those members will also eventually return. As for what it was for, one time was for posting "adult" content on a forum that doesn't welcome it, another time was for causing problems with other members (using their "clout" to bully newer members), and still another was for constantly harassing a member for being trans. Most of the members understood each ban, some didn't, but eventually in each case things returned to normality.

Not really, I haven't had to do that yet 😛

I haven't had to ban any popular members. Only ones I have banned were spammers.

Sometimes things just have to be done whether the member is popular or not. They are not above the rules and shouldn't be given special treatment.
