Rent Cap

Rent is high, but that's a product of inflation. The US government's solution could be to cap rent, but how does that help the landlords who still have to pay high taxes, high repairs and maintenance, etc? I have friends who are landlords and they aren't getting rich as some renters might think.

I think it would be reasonable in states like Florida and California where they over charge. When we lived there they were charging up to 7 thousand on houses that looked run down.

Is the property tax really high? Or is hurricane insurance on the property high?

I'm a landlord (albeit not in the US), and I would definitely support a rent cap. Landlords here will in 999 out of 1000 cases get a pretty good surplus, and the 1000th case should probably not be a landlord at all. I do not at all feel sorry for those who have an extra property to rent out. Rent is way too high, and everybody are (or at least should be) entitled to a place to live.

I don't know. Maybe?

The rental house we were living out of didn't have hurricane insurance on it when the roof got damaged from Hurricane Michael.

JUst think what the UK is like then HELP

We have a housing shortage in the UK so rents are prohibitively high and first home ownership is close to impossible. I'm not in favour of a rent cap though because there are better options.

There are over quarter of a million long-term empty properties in the UK which could be utilised to ease the shortage of affordable properties.

People could rebel against renting by some "go homeless" strike, but nobody would do it. Once demand is down, then there might be concessions.
