Do you have one on your forum? Which ones do you have? Do you find them to be a success or a complete pain? Have they ever caused trouble on your forum?

I have a reputation MOD on my site and so far I haven't had any problems with it being abused... I don't have an awards system though, but it might be considered.

We have both a reputation system and a cash system... Both cause issues for us and are massive pains in the backside. The cash mod we had to fix up as it had more bugs then any mod i have seen (maybe apart from handymans SEO mod). Both get abused and we are forever getting PMs and complaints made about users not paying for exchanges and people abusing the rep system. It is never ending but we can't do much about it and when we do we get pounced on by everybody for changing the rules because no one understands the problem there is with many users doing exchanges they can afford or are too big for them to complete.

Once again, well said.

I have to say though, I think that with REP and Award and Cash etc it just ends up getting abused in the end, and on a forum that doesn't need, I wouldn't use the modification.. IE having a rep or cash mod on a baseball forum.
Only keep it for necessary sites.

Yes, we do have a Rep system, and the only time it really got abused, lol, was some new member showed up claiming he was the greatest, and noone could beat him at brawl ... which are tough words to back up on my forum.

He ended up losing to so many players, and he'd -Rep them 😀 I went through and took all those out, though; and made it clear to him what the Rep system was for.

I use the standard reputation system that comes with vBulletin and it's a nice feature. I also uploaded the "thank you" hack, which allows people to Thank posts that they like or that were helpful (each Thank You adds +1 rep).

Pretty much any board is suited to have a rep system, and I find them fairly helpful.

hmmm the positive rep thing is ok, i'm not into a negative rep thing though or that 'karma' stuff a lot of forums have,

The great thing about having a Cash / Rep system, Reputation and post count is that they keep members at your forum. Members thrive off the sense of progression; whether it's "having over 1000 posts", having the highest rep count of the most amount of Cash / Points...that feeling of being better than other members is what keeps them active.

My opinion is that if we didn't have the rep points or FP cash in place here, then a lot of the members we currently have would be elsewhere.
