Reputation Changes

I think it's best like this as it caused a lot of unnecessary problems across the forum. It wont be as effective but will certainly save time for the staff and wont cause fights.

how about that only rep can be given by users but if they find someone doing something that deserves negative rep. than they can PM a moderator or report the thread and Mod's and Admin's can give - rep ?

i think this got buried due to fast replies.

If at all possible, check their backgrounds in previous exchanges or if you know of them on other forums. A reputation system can always be flawed. An untrustworthy member could get his friends to register an account and keep giving them reputation, hence why I hardly ever use it as a factor. Although, speaking from my point of view, I get to know everyone better than say - someone who comes on once every few days.

Trust your instincts and how they have acted in the past. we should so have an ebay/Amazon feedback system 😛

The problem with that is much the same as with the rep. Someone will leave a negative comment and people will complain and say i only pulled out of the exchange because they didn't pay me up front etc. That will still be very high maintenance if not more high maintenance while still not showing a true rating on if they can be trusted.

The reason we removed the - rep as it is waste too much of our time removing rep and dealing with rep abuse reports. Also it was causing alot of trouble between members. Doing this will waste more of our time and still cause problems.

I think the first post answered this solution and I totally agree with it. I've never given or been given -rep but I can only imagine how busy the staff would be with these complaints. The staff also have a life they don't live in the forums.

There are lots of other ways to find out about members, someone mentioned the Ebay system, I use Ebay alot and I will check there feedback but I will also see how many transactions they have made (consider this as posts on here), and how long they have been on Ebay for (consider this as how long they have been registered on here). There are also other instinctive ways and also +rep of course and you can always view there previous posts to help you make an instinctive decision about the member you are considering to make a transaction with.

Unless you mod this into having individual reputation on a per forum basis...

(Exchange Rep / Support Rep / Debate Rep)

...having a single reputation mod on a forum this large has spelled disasters with me a couple times, where I would request exchanges only to be denied with some due to the low rep, which is due to the immature kids running the debate section "negative repping" those who they can't keep up with during a discussion.

Why should the negative rep which was handed out by a child during a heated discussion reflect whether or not I am trust worthy enough to request post exchanges.

One reason why I have quit...for now...doing any sort of exchanges or heavy discussions of any kind here.

It's a shame that this had to be removed, but I can see why the team wouldn't want to waste time on this anymore.

Exactly what I was going to say.

At least it will keep most of the 'drama' with the system away now.

For those users who eventually caused the negative reputation button to be removed: It's really a shame you can't use a single button maturely.

Good changes, Fowler.

I also know the troubles with dealing with negative rep issues. We all know its just a meaningless number but sometimes we can't help but get offended by someone giving us a negative rep. Some people will even leave the forum over it.
So its like a thank-you mod now. I like those. 😀

Its a long time coming and I think this is a step in the right direction and may also mean people will be more picky when giving out rep now.

Hopefully will give the admins a few less headaches as well

Never has a user sent us a PM saying a user sent me rep that i didn't deserve.
I did once. xD It was cuz of Jakjak aka Elf aka every troll on FP, oopsy.

That wasn't to me though... I am sure i would have remembered if a user said that they have been given + rep they didn't deserve

Although I have never had a problem with it, but good update to keep the abuse down.
