Provided you outline that you will require this information in the privacy policy and explain how it will be handled and the members right to cease the information being held, I think it's acceptable to ask for information like you're real first name and age for a application to assist the forum owner with his or her duties. It's all about having a legitimate reason to process the information.

Let's discuss, what would be your opinion?

I'm a private person who doesn't give out my name nor do I get paid USD to have to give out my account number. My age, I'm fine with giving it but I don't feel it should be mandatory per se. I can see asking for the age to be sure the member is not under the age of 18 however.

If you're pay in real cash for services on your site, you should at least know the member's first name, their location, their email address and their age. I understand members wanting to protect their identities, but sites that run a business want some level of protection as well.

At the very least I would like to know the user's age and general location of where they live. This way I know when they'll be more active and how mature they are.

If you don't plan to pay your staff, why do you feel that you need private info. I find this ridiculous. However, if you plan to pay the staff and you are required to file taxes, I think that's ok.

Being that I am someone who likes to keep a lot of my personal stuff private especially online, I only tend to want to really give my first name, age, email address, and the country I live in and that is as far as it will go.

With some companies such as Twitch and YouTube and even Google for Adsense, I obviously give all details including tax info to those as that is needed but I know they are companies that are pretty safe.

I would say the first name, age, and location is key to have. If your site is large and you have Admins, even a better way to reach them besides email such as phone number would be helpful.
