I've been looking at getting some reseller hosting for some time now. (I want this because I'm going to have multiple sites hosted and paying for individual hosting on each one individually would be rather expensive.)

So for a forewarning, do not pitch your own hosting for individual sites. (So if all you offer is a single cPanel account... Don't even bother wasting my time. That's not what I'm looking for at all. ) And please, no deals on multiple individual site hosting either.

For more about what I'm looking for:
- I want the option to have about 20-30 accounts with their own cPanel.
- If the site allows mature content (not like a full on pornography site where it's image after image after video of that because I know that virtually no host allows that and that's not what I'm looking for anyway, but rather that they allow stories to explore themes of violence or sex or psychological affects of war or etc... ) that's all the better.
- Bandwidth wise, I have no idea if unlimited is a good idea or if I should go for a package with a set amount (like 400GB or 800GB per month.)
- I don't care if they provide email addresses or not.
- I'm not going to say how much I'm looking to spend because I want to see various options. Though if it's something like 1,000$ a month, that's a safe bet I'm not interested.

So if you have used reseller hosting before...
1- Which company did you use?
2- What did you think of them? (How was their uptime? How were they to deal with getting issues resolved? Were they quick or slow responding? And how often were they able to fix issues you had?)
3- If you don't mind sharing, what level of package did you get? (And how did that work out for you?)

explore themes of violence or sex or psychological affects of war
Could you go into more details on these subjects. Talking about these subjects isn't a huge deal, but telling someone how to kill someone (violence) is a issue. Some sites of these subjects will hide areas also.

Check out http://ushost247.com and read the TOS and see if you fit.

There are a variety of options around. From the amount of sites you are wanting to host, I'd imagine you would be needing around 40GB of diskspace. If you want a cheap, solid and reliable custom reseller package from http://www.HolderHost.com I can work something out with you. I am currently in the process of a major overall of the site and pricing (no more $8 per year hosting).

Who else can I recommend?

Hostgator - I have a site hosted by a Hostgator reseller and it's pretty good.

-- 13 Dec 2012, 12:13 --

Edit: USHost247 seems to have competent operators so they may also be a good option.

You can get a reseller for free at Host4Post for posting on the forums.

Having the option for mature content would be so people can write stories and not have to be restricted so much. So they can decide that if they wanted to give one of their own characters a bloody send off they could and it wouldn't violate my Terms of Service in the process.
Or if they wanted to have a character talk about a traumatic event in their past like say they went to war and watched their best friend get gunned down.
In terms of sexual content, having a bit more freedom so people could decide to let their characters actually have sex and not have to stop once the pants/panties hit floor. It wouldn't be as vividly described like a full porn video, but certainly more graphic than something "sex now, ok, *fade to black* that was amazing."

For perfect clarity, this would not be for teaching people how to kill or anything like that.

I also do not want to encourage hiding content when that content is actually against the ToS. I disagree with that sort of practice and don't feel anyone should ever do that.

I've taken a look at UShosts247's ToS and I still think that their ToS still wouldn't allow mature content.

Under their Acceptable Use Policy:
"We do not host adult content of any description"
Which does that include content like I've mentioned here? Would that catch a site if they had a story about a soldier retelling a tale of a battle? Or is that geared primarily for sexual content?

Though USHost247 has pretty good pricing models (probably the cheapest I've seen so far). But I have no sweet clue what the difference between any of the account types are there. (Everything except hard drive space is unlimited. And to further complicate things, the reseller, master reseller and alpha reseller have no discernible differences to really help explain what's going on there either. All that is apparent is cost keeps going up. Why would I consider a Master Reseller when a Reseller goes for about 50% of the cost for pretty much the same?)

As for Host4post, I don't want to get into that kind of situation because I am not a fan of post to host methods (especially if I end up on a forum where I dislike the staff or members or whatever). Plus there are days when I really just can't post due to work, family obligations, or even that I just want to sit back, relax and play some videogames.

EDIT -
Holderhost looks very interesting.
10$ a month for 100GB HD and 400GB bandwidth.
Even allows Adult content.
I'm not going to commit and say for certain I will use it. But I will be keeping it in mind.

Thanks very much for keeping HolderHost in mind. If you do decide to go with us, could you possibly send me a PM first? We are changing billing systems, adding a new theme etc. and I wouldn't want anything to go amiss! 🙂

As to your primary query regarding Alpha, Master and Reseller accounts. There is a small difference. Master reseller accounts allow people, in the hosting industry, to sell reseller accounts (which can sell shared hosting accounts) AND shared hosting accounts. Alpha accounts allow for the creation of Master Reseller accounts, Reseller accounts and shared hosting accounts.

Basically Master resellers and Alpha resellers can create accounts which allow their clients to become webhosts or have multiple cpanels in their own right.

Your needs would suit a reseller account (which is generally the cheaper of the three as it does not require the host to purchase other plugins for cPanel).

I didn't mean hide it to get by a TOS. I should of added to the comments.

Read Sam's post for the differences in hosting packages.

Chris (from ushost247.com) and I will have a chat about this to see what he thinks.

http://uzrhosting.com allows adult content and has competitive pricing. All of our plans can be customized to fit your sites needs. You can get an unlimited basic reseller account for $26.90 a month. If you are looking for limits, based off your OP, you could get a reseller with the following specs for $20.91:

Disk Space: 20 GB
Bandwidth: 500 GB
cPanel Accounts: 25
Everything else unlimited

We also offer Full Reseller accounts, which would allow you to create reseller accounts as well as shared accounts. The price for a Full Reseller with the specs above, along with 5 reseller accounts, would come to $25.86 a month. This plan can also be customized to fit your needs. The only thing that can not be unlimited on this plan is the number of reseller accounts that you can create.

I can also offer you a couple different coupon codes to knock the price down a little bit more for you. If you are interested feel free to send me a PM here, or open a ticket and ask for Patrick here: http://www.uzrhosting.com/submitticket. ... 2&deptid=2

Thank you for considering UZR Hosting for your Reseller Hosting needs!

Thanks for taking a look into USHost247. We would definitely host a website such as you describe. "Adult Content" will usually mean pornographic videos/pictures. As long as the site does not encourage violence on people, then we will be perfectly fine with it.

Reseller Accounts can only sell/make shared hosting cpanel accounts.
Master Reseller can sell/make Resellers AND shared accounts.
Alpha Resellers can sell/make Resellers, Master Resellers AND shared accounts.

Hope this clears it up some!

Thanks Sambling and Chris Grigg for clarifying what Master and Alpha reseller accounts are. (Makes more sense why they'd be more expensive now.)

Sorry Taz, I should have included in my previous post. I have looked at Bluehost like you suggested. But I'm not sure of them because they don't have bandwidth list. They only have 15mbps transfer speed listed. That doesn't tell me what, if any, bandwidth restrictions they have. (I'll have to send them a message to find more out. I'd rather not jump the gun on this and find out that their limit turns out to be like 150GB a month and I end up shooting way over that. )

Thanks everyone for posting offers. I'm still looking into everything and I haven't made up my mind yet. (I've got a lot to consider here yet before I'm ready to pick a host and start that next step process.)

BlueHost limits you to resource usage. So if you have 50GB reseller and you make one account have 50GB, then you only have ONE cpanel account on your reseller..

Yeah, that's whats bad about them. I too have been looking for reseller hosts for my upcoming project. I hope from these responses, I'll be able to choose on. Chris, just because I know you, I might order from you just to help a "brother" out 😀.

Wait, so if you use Bluehost you have to make all your cPanel accounts up front? Or how does that work?

(I was thinking of just starting with making 5 cPanel accounts to begin with and then making others as I needed them up to my limit. Is that possible or do I have to make all accounts up front?)

I think, could be wrong, that what Chris is trying to say is that the resources you give your cPanel accounts that you make have = what resources you have (no matter whether they are used). Most hosts instead allow something like this (called overselling):

You have a 50Gb reseller account. You can create 50 10GB accounts for people so that each person COULD use 10GB of diskspace. But- as long as all the cpanels together don't USE over 50GB then it doesn't matter. Bluehost doesn't allow this. Whatever resources you divvy up to an account is taken out of the total. You could only have 1 50GB account, 2 25Gb account etc.

I hope that is correct Chris! 🙂

That is 100% correct sambling.

BlueHost controls their accounts by resources. Meaning you could have 10 10GB accounts, 2 25GB accounts, or 1 50GB account.

Over at USHost247, we use overselling and you can have a total amount of discspace, but allocate each account high resources, but you just cant exceed the set amount you have total on your account.
