I think it depends on how long the project has been abandoned and the reasoning behind it. Is it something that was started two weeks ago, abandoned a week later, then all of a sudden, you're wanting to pick it back up a month later? Might be a little wary about that depending on the reasoning. Obviously we don't need to know all the details, but for me, I'm more likely to look more favorably upon personal issues coming up over just losing interest in the project or things not going well with the project in the beginning. Personal issues happen, and sometimes, they're just out of your control. But if you've already lost interest in the project once or ran into issues with it that led to it being abandoned, who's to say it won't happen again?
The idea of starting up a forum or a blog bounces around in my head on occasion, but what stops me is the commitment. Yes, I'll go all in on the project at the start, but then a few weeks later, I'll burn out and end up losing interest and end up abandoning it. Sometimes I circle back to it, sometimes I don't. I just don't want to pull people that are supporting me and the project on a string and lead them on if I'm invested and all in one week and burn out the next. I've had that happen where I've helped start up an RP community, then inclement weather happened in one of the admins' areas and after that, everything was just abandoned by everyone when we were so close to opening up. Obviously the inclement weather was out of everyone's control (and I certainly hope the person affected ended up being okay!), but it ultimately ended up leading to me taking over the project until it inevitably fizzled out (as most RP sites tend to do after some time) between the community no longer being engaged and me just burning out for several reasons.
At the end of the day though, if it's something you're wanting to commit to again and bring back to life, go for it! You might have some people with negative opinions, but don't let 'em bring you down! I'm sure you'll end up finding plenty more people willing to support the project at the end of the day, and it'll all work out in the end.
