Review Chillerr!

I like the idea behind your forum! However, the banner is pretty hard to see against the background because they're both blueish.

In addition, the bottom row of text (on the image below) is riding up into the middle. Just a minor design oops!

Thanks for the feedback but the logo is more of a darkish blue so for the moment it's fine, but we'll be getting a new logo very soon.

As for the problem, I'll be working on fixing that aswell.

When I first came on Chillerr to perform this review, I was hit by a very nice theme. There was a nice blue block at the top with a very nice looking logo (although it would look better centralized) and then as I went down the blue changed to a very pretty black theme. I was not sure about the banner being there, but I assumed that it was going to turn into advertisements at some point. The only thing I'd suggest you do with that image there is to move it up and centralize it. Once you have done that, I think that you will create the perfect first impression for Chillerr.

When I first saw this theme posted by iAndrew I was in love with it and I was amazed that he was giving it away for free. It was originally made for a gaming forum but I love how you have adapted it slightly to make it suitable for Chillerr. Even adding that "Chillerr" effect by making the colors at the top into an icy blue block. The only thing that I hate is that the forums are not in line with the next set of forums in the following category. If you can't fix this yourself, I'm sure that you can find someone to do it for you. It'd make the forum look a whole lot better than it already is.

The only thing that I could find bad about your site statistics really is the fact that you have some forums that have not been posted in for a while. Other than that, they're superb. When I went over to the Board Statistics page I was very impressed. Chillerr averages 73.36 posts per day, 7.62 threads per day and 1.5 new registrations per day. On average each member has 49.06 posts and 5.1 threads. Threads also average 8.62 replies. If these averages stay like this or even get better, Chillerr will do very well.

You kindly keep your community well-updated and you're constantly throwing threads out into the News & Announcements forum and that's lovely to see. They seem to be very well detailed and very well written. There are not many spelling/grammatical errors and most of the ones that you do make are not very well noticeable. Keep the updates coming, everyone loves to stay updated!

Originality
[note]========== BEGIN - Originality ==========[/note]
Your theme isn't commonly used on general discussion forums like Chillerr, because it wasn't made for a general discussion forum. That is a positive. However, the forums within are standard general discussion forums that have been done over and over. Threads will be mostly the same copycat threads that have been done a thousand times before. Sadly, it's very hard to come up with content on a general discussion forum that hasn't been done before. You could try to think of new names for the forums, adding your own twist makes it just that little bit more original.

Site Structure
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Structure ==========[/note]
Chillerr is a general discussion forum, there is no real site structure that it needs to follow (to me anyway). As long as it has the community forums at the top, it can be followed by anything and it'd still be logical.

Grammar & Spelling
[note]========== BEGIN - Grammar & Spelling ==========[/note]
I usually do this for the forum descriptions and anything on the index page. There were a few errors that popped up in the forum description that were very noticeable to me. For instance, in the News & Announcements description, " informed upon this section. " should be "informed via threads in this section.". In the Suggestions & Feedback description, the description starts with "Would you" which is the start of a question, it should end in a question mark. Later on in that same description, "Also you can leave your feedback " should be "You can also leave your feedback". There are a few more things that I can write about, but it would be pointless and a waste of space. Instead, I suggest that you run the descriptions through an online grammar & spellchecker.

Final Remarks
Although it is very hard to kick-start a general discussion forum because of the amount of them there are out there, Chillerr seems to be doing very well. All you can do is continue to advertise and take on the few suggestions that I have given you. I wish you all the best of luck!

Thank you very much, Atrox.

As for the centering the logo, I think it'd be a great idea and I will definitely use your advice about the logo.

I've received lots of suggestions regarding the aligning and I am contacting a few people regarding that, hopefully in the next few days that issue will be fixed.

Regarding our statistics, we're between the 69-75 posts mark on regular stable basis, we're still a little forum so we're not averaging as high as we could but with the progress Chillerr is receiving, we'll be hitting higher marks very soon.

I like to keep the community updated with what's happening, it's just a good idea and as for the word spreading about the announcements, I'll be setting up a sort of message board very soon where users can be 'more' notified of the important announcements.

As for originality, that is definitely a key part that we will be working on. I'll be alert & I will be making changes to the forum names, etc.

I never paid much attention to the grammatical side in Forum Descriptions but with that being brought as an alert, that will be fixed and improved in the coming days hopefully.

Once again, thank you for taking your time reviewing Chillerr and I'm very happy you rated us 4 stars!

🙂

Not a problem at all, please be sure to leave some feedback on the official thread that can be found in the Community Reviews forum. That way, you'll be able to get a discount on your next review. 🙂

As for the mistakes in the forum descriptions, you're free to PM me all of the descriptions and I'll re-write them for you happily.

This website looks really good! 🙂 A few suggestions:

1. The logo doesn't stand out much on the header. Maybe use a version with white text?
2. It's a bit weird to see your own ad banner in the header. I recommend making a deal with someone else to show their ad banner, even if for only a few FP$ per month, just so that you aren't showing your own ad. It makes your site look more successful, and people are more likely to buy your ads if they don't think they're the first one to.
3. The text on the index page's "latest post" looks odd. The date and user are jammed together for some reason.

Good luck! 🙂

My biggest problem with Chiller is the theme. The dark theme is gorgeous, but a light theme seems like a necessity. Definitely see if you can add one, even if it's not the default look. Many people don't like light themes and you'll reach many more people if you have both a light and dark option available.

The forum as a nice design and is easy to read. I like reading text white on black though some is different so maybe you could have two themes one black on white and the other white on black.

We already have a 'light' theme option which can be selected from the footer.

It has a nice design and I must say its the first forum, which uses a dark theme , that gives off a chill atmosphere. Most of the forums with a dark theme tend to pic the wrong colors for staff and member usernames and that can be really painful at times. The board icons and descriptions are looking great , almost too good 😀. The logo was mentioned a 100 times so I won't say anything about it . But I am not sure what's so unique about your forum compared to other general/chill forums. Its not a bad thing but its not a good thing ether.

This is optional , but you might want to try and create something unique on your board, something that will make you stand out in the pile of general forums 😀 .

We just changed the logo today :|

As for uniqueness, that is definitely something we are thinking of and you will see a change very soon. Thanks for the quick review and it'd be great to see you around 😀

I wish I had the time but I am making my own forum soon and it will keep me busy a lot.
If its the new logo I am still a bit uncertain how it fits. It is not bad but somehow i feel that the blue background color is too much of a contrast for the black theme.

No problem and thanks for the feedback once again.

It'd be great to see more users leaving reviews 😀

The first thing I see upon my examination of Chillerr is a blue and white logo and a dark black theme. I like how you have used the dark theme to your advantage. There is one minor thing I see that needs to be fixed. Your forum descriptions are somewhat hard to read. This problem could be fixed very easily by just making the text a bit bigger. My first overall impressions of Chillerr were positive.

Your dark theme looks good for a forum of your nicite. I would recommend having a better light theme as an extra option. Your light theme looks generic and rather bland.

You need to completely disable the mobile theme. The mobile theme is incredibly hard to navigate the forum on a mobile device. Reading different topics takes too many clicks. The "Menu" button in the top left on the mobile theme is broken.

You need to change your logo a bit. It just says "CHILLERR" without any thing else. I would recommend you get something that say more than "CHILLERR" or at least make something that has a different font.

Chillerr is averaging 82+ posts per day. Very good job on this. However, you're only averaging 7 threads per day. That tells me that many of your posts are in a "Hello, Goodbye and Chat" type thread. I would post more threads in specialized area of Chillerr. That would give your users more content to post in while driving your thread count higher.

You have been doing a very good job keeping your members up to date with announcements. Good job doing this. Those announcements are well written with very good grammar and spelling. The few errors (like comma splices) are unnoticeable to the casual reader.

I noticed you allow your members to vote in polls to decide site decisions. This is a very good approach that you have taken to insure that your community is involved within different parts of the site.

3 Administrators and 1 Super Moderator is a good balance. Nothing seems to be getting out of hand on the forum. Your rules are enforced well by staff members.

Originality
[note]========== BEGIN - Originality ==========[/note]
Originality is something that is very hard to accomplish in a general chat forum due to there being so many of them. Chillerr is an exception to that mold. Chillerr's forums names are all original and really "stand out" to the viewer. Your theme is original and something I haven't seen used in a forum of your genre.

The only thing I really see regarding originality is some of your names are too original. Names like "Idea Hat" for a webmaster section don't seem to make any sense to the section idea. I would recommend you change "Idea Hat" to something more like "Webmaster Chat."

Site Structure
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Structure ==========[/note]
Your site structure could use more work. You have to many forums that aren't active. Things like "MP3 Player" and "Artist Alley" need more activity to stay alive. I would just merge them with "The Couch" instead of trying to regain activity within those forums.

On your top Navigation bar, you have a "Home" button that takes me to an error page. If you're working on a homepage for Chillerr the "Home" button should be removed while you're working on the page. After the homepage is complete, re enable it. The navigation of your forum is done well, though. I was able to find everything without major issues.

Grammar & Spelling
[note]========== BEGIN - Grammar & Spelling ==========[/note]
First off, there are way too many commas in your site descriptions. Things like "Any news regarding Chillerr community boards will be found inside here, if there are any announcements or recent updates, members will be informed via threads in this section." should be changed to "Any news regarding Chillerr community boards will be found inside here. Any news or announcements will be listed within this forum for members to read ." poor grammar seems to be a trend in Chillerr's descriptions. You could fix that problem easily by asking your other staff members their opinions on your descriptions before you post them.

Everything else looks good. Announcements are good for the most part, though I would recommend you put them through a grammar checker before posting.

Chillerr is doing very well for the amount of time it has been open to the public. If you stay with Chillerr, fix a few problems and continue to post you should have no problem finding members to join. Best of luck!

Thank you for the review, John.

We'll be adding a better light theme and a much better mobile theme very soon, the current ones were just temporary so users have an option. As for the logo saying 'Chillerr', I don't see any need for for adding anything extra on to it.

I will try to think of a better name for the Webmaster section, 'Webmaster Chat' is too boring and ordinary. I hadn't noticed the 'Home' part was still there, I've removed that. As for forum descriptions, I'll definitely improve them. I will also try to keep those inactive sections alive & going aswell.

Once again thanks, John.
