Promotion Curve Quick Review by Twisted Fairytale
Strengths:
Design and Appearance
Without considering the logo, name, and catchphrase (I'll get back to those later on) of Promotion Curve, the forum is pretty aesthetically pleasing. I enjoy how each forum has its own forum icon, and most (if not all) icons are related to their topic. The colors are easy on my eyes and everything seems to come together very smoothly. Most forums can't pull off a sidebar very well, so I have mixed feelings about PC's sidebar. It serves a small purpose, but to really use a sidebar correctly, you need dynamic content that serves a purpose. You want to make it something that no one just ignores. Try to think of some ways to make your sidebar more interesting to your members.
Weaknesses:
Same Old, Same Old
One of the biggest issues we see now-a-days with the members of Forum Promotion is the fact that they want to create a promotion forum too! Promotion forums are very, very hard to make active, useful, and unique. Promotion Curve struggles with the same issues. First, the logo used closely resembles the old logo of Supromote, another promotion forum. The icon used in the logo, along with the small favicon, are the exact same. Looking past the image copying (which I'm sure is perfectly legal because it was a free icon), the first category of Promotion Curve exactly resembles the first category of Forum Promotion. Announcements, Community Issues, Introductions: it's all just the same.
Design Flaws or Poor Aesthetics
While the bulk of Promotion Curve looks appealing, there is always room to improve. I've found a few design flaws or areas that look much poorer than the rest of the forum. Take a look at the image below:
The header and start of the index
From the top down - the advertisement space in the upper right hand corner of the page looks slightly out of place. This can be fixed with a border put around the ad space to make it more "inclusive" with the rest of Promotion Curve's theme. At the moment, it's just kind of sitting there. Eww. Moving down, the red box outlining "Promotion Curve - A Curve for Promotion" isn't really needed at all. All of that information can be found on the logo, and isn't needed as text right there. If that text was removed, the green announcement bar could fall a little lower and tie Promotion Curve's index together nicely.
In addition, take a look at the addition image below. This is a difference in alignment between Promotion Curve's Admin section and Off-Topic section. I'm not sure what happened here, but it would be nice to have fixed.
The red line shows mis-alignment between forums
Final Remarks:
I only covered three sections in my review because there was a lot of information in each of them. Promotion Curve, in essence, is a mixture of many other promotion forums - trying to make it's way into the "promotion" scene. While it is pleasing to look at, there are a few ways that it could improve. In a final conclusion, what Promotion Curve needs the most is it's own identity, not that of other promotion forums.
